Great boutique accomodation. Almost stepping back in time it was so great. Helpful staff too”
This place is one of the most beatiful places ive stayed in. The old hutong chinese architecture and fixtures gives such a unique experience, with all the modern comforts required. The place is also like a mini museum with lots of displays of chinese toys, paintings, figuirines etc. Staff were also super helpful, and the location is only 10 minutes walk to the nearest train.

A very pleasant stay”
Enjoyed my mid-winter visit to Beijing while staying at this hotel. The staff were warm, accommodating, and generous. The reception staff helped with multiple queries I had, from local food recommendations, to understanding the culture of bargaining in Beijing. The housekeeping was great. The courtyard setting is much more interesting than a western hotel. The range of food at the breakfast buffet was excellent- from traditional Chinese snacks to nice fresh fruit. I was happy walking from the hutong to Dongsi subway station, and using this as a launchpad for exploring Beijing.

Amazing Stay”
We had 3 family rooms for a group of 9 people (4 adults + 5 kids from 1.5 yrs to 10 yrs old) and the hotel was perfect. The location was great, we walked to Lama temple and explored the hutongs, we had no challenges getting Didi (China Uber) to the location or booking transportation through the hotel, and the staff was great with our kids. They had a baby crib (pack-n-play) which was great for our youngest. Only improvements would be better wine vs mini-bar (we just bought outside), so limited ways to make it better :) Oh yeah, the courtyard was lovely to sit in during the day and at night when the kids were sleeping

Great location, oasis of calm in the city. ”
The staff were very friendly and looked after us really well. They ensured we had everything we needed, whatever we were doing. The courtyard seating provided a tranquil environment after a busy day.

Exceptional”
This place lived up to all of the positive reviews. A gem of a place with old Chinese charm and modern, western facilities. The staff are kind and helpful with a good knowledge of English. We were too tired to go out for dinner one evening so had dinner in the small bar. The food was delicious! A bit expensive compared to what we would have paid in the neighborhood, but much less than a typical hotel restaurant. The included breakfast had both Chines and Western options, and was acceptable. Not all to our taste, but quite a variety. The location is a bit off the main street in a hutong which added to the fun, although at the end of a ling day of sightseeing in the oppressive head and humidity, the distance seemed even farther. But the location really does add to the charm. If ever in Beijing again, we will certainly stay here!

Vice hotel and comfortable”
Despite winter, it is comfortable and not cold at all inside the room. The room and bed is good. The only setback is the time for breakfast a bit short from 7am to 9.30am. The room for breakfast also quite small.

Unique Experience”
Hotel is located deep within the Hu Tong of Dong Si Si Tiao, where famous great men in Chinese History stayed at. It is also within walking distance to the nearest subway station. Hotel staff were friendly and the spread for the complimentary breakfast is good. Recommended for travellers who want to enjoy the uniqueness of Chinese culture without compromising on the comfort.

The best traditional courtyard hotel in China”
The Beijing Double Happiness Courtyard Hotel lived up to all my expectations of staying in a traditional courtyard hotel. I only wish my stay had been longer. The staff were very friendly and attentive, the location excellent for exploring the Dongcheng District hutongs, the Lama Temple, the Bell & Drum Towers and the Forbidden City. This was by far the best hotel I stayed in during this year's 2 week trip in China, as well as the 4 weeks I spent in China in 2012.

an amazing hotel in Chinese authentic style”
it was just one night i stayed in this amazing hotel in traditional chinese style but that was enough to be enchanted with. there are very friendly and helpful girls on the reception who offered me to book a taxi in advance. my room was for а single so it was not so big but very nice and clean with a lot of modern convenience stuff like sleepers, bathrobe, teaspot, complimentary water and even tea brewing. i really liked the interior in authentic style, it's very thing you can feel the atmosphere of old china. the breakfast was very huge, but full of chinese food. it would be nice to make some descriptions for local food because it's very specific for non-chinese. it's a real pity i stayed in beijing only one night, 'cause i had no opportunity to hang around the city. but i really hope to discover this historical place someday and start that with staying in the double happiness courtyard hotel

Charming Hotel with Amazing Staff”
My friends and I had such a great time here! First off, the staff is super friendly and helpful. They were able to give us directions to everywhere we wanted to walk to (it's super close to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square), called us taxis, told us the specific subway route and stops to take to get to the train station, and even reminded us to take our passports to the Forbidden City, which is not something we would've known to do. The rooms smaller than western-style hotels, but use the space efficiently, and the bathrooms are really nice - I loved their showerheads! We took advantage of the retractable clothesline in the bathroom to wash a few shirts and things - they provide laundry soap along with the other usual consumables like toothpaste and shampoo - and came back at the end of a long day of sightseeing to find that the staff had neatly folded our clothes for us once they'd dried! The breakfast spread is really good, and there's a lot of variety, so everyone should be able to find something they like. There's also a bar in the hotel, which we heartily took advantage of every evening. And although it's not usually something you look for in a hotel, I appreciated that they had souvenirs for sale in the lobby. They were a lot of the usual touristy things (fans, chopsticks, teacups, red lacquer bowls, figurines), but they were at totally reasonable prices. I bought a fan from them for 30 RMB that I later saw in a tourist-trap stall marked as 120! I doubt I would've been able to negotiate that low with my meager haggling skills. My only negative experience, and it has nothing to do with the hotel itself, was with finding a taxi to take us here when we first arrived in Beijing. It's down an alley, so one taxi didn't know where it was, and another just didn't want to drive there at all. It's only a short walk from the Dongsi subway station though, so I would suggest taking the subway here or, if you get a similarly uncooperative taxi driver, ask them to dro

The most special stay I've enjoyed in China!”
My friends had stayed at the Beijing Double Happiness Hotel in July, and couldn't stop talking about what a wonderful time they had. I feel the same way. I loved being in a Hutong neighborhood, and eating the food from the fabulous little shop up the street as well as the wonderful breakfast each day. It was one of the few times in four trips, I felt like I was actually in a Chinese Hotel instead of a generic four star palace that looks pretty much the same in every country in the world. The staff was fabulous!!!! So kind and willing to help. They always had money to change (not the case in the big fancy places). The bed was comfortable and the room cozy and inviting. I loved the old photos on the walls and the magazine racks between the rooms. And I loved walking to the subway which was close, and given the difficulty of finding taxis in Beijing, it was very convenient to have the subway only a few blocks away. If I get back to Beijing, I will stay no where else!

Old Beijing Charm”
Beijing Double Happiness Hotel is not a chic, modern, glamorous hotel. Instead, it is an iconic Old Beijing courtyard hotel located on a Hutong near the center of Beijing, and updated with modern conveniences such as A/C, WiFi and modern bathrooms. The staff is friendly, courteous and helpful. Breakfast is bountiful and delicious. The rooms and the rest of the hotel are as shown on their website. The bed is very firm, but not hard; we found it very comfortable. We are already planning our next visit to this hotel.

Very good”
my stay at the hotel was very good. I would say the staff was outstanding. Their English was more than adequate. They were always there when I needed them for help and there attitude was great. The rooms were cleaned extremely well with a complete wipe down of everything. This hotel is something out of the past. If your looking for that you would find it there. If your preference is for a up scale modern hotel, don't bother. For a true Chinese experience out of the past check out The Beijing Double Happiness Courtyard Hotel. Oh Yea! The price is right.

good place”
Went for my "2nd" honeymoon in beijing after reading lots of good review on this hotel and decided to give it a try. Especially they have a wedding suite and the room is really a very authentic Chinese wedding room! Being a Chinese and staying in city area this is a good experience to stay in such traditional place. Although the room is not as big and grand as the 5 stars hotel we are very happy with our choice. They even gave us a wine for our celebration. The hotel located near the subway station abt 5 to 10 mins walk. It is centrally located and is one of interchanges. As this is a residential area the streets are dim when you come back at night. Taxi driver are not willing to drive in but it is very near to walk in the alley from outside. The residents are also friendly and the place is safe. Just don't walk alone if possible. The day tour is good and the lunch provided with the tour is delicious too. The staff are helpful and speak good English. Will recommend this place if you would like to experience staying in a courtyard.

Fantastic, charming, cozy hotel.”
Great location, 10 min. walk from nearest subway stop, right in heart of Beijing in a cool hutong alleyway. The staff were super friendly and very helpful recommending restaurants, shortcuts, things to do and see, etc. I will definitely be staying at the Double Happiness Courtyard next time I'm in Beijing. No need for a western hotel, this was great! Room had a very clean bathroom, small fridge, safe, tv. The courtyard outside the room was charming. They have a small, cozy bar that also serves pretty good food.

Excellent cultural experience”
This is the best hotel I stayed in Beijing. If you want to experience Chinese Culture in depth, you do not want to miss this hotel. The hotel is a heritage courtyard house of an ancient scholar back in the emperor's day (ask the luggage boy, he will tell you all about it). The layout of the rooms and garden, and the interior of the rooms and furniture are all very ancient style (not some cheap furniture), which will bring us back to the emperor's day, just like what you see in the movies. The staffs are all very friendly and polite, the receptionists and even the luggage boy. The luggage boy spend time tell us a lot about the history of this hotel, which make it more meaningful when you stayed in there. The location of the hotel is very near the City centre, in the alley way (hutong), but no big departmental store nearby. However it does give you a feel when you walk thru the hutong to the main street (quite safe in the hutong as there is a police station next to the hotel). 10 mins walk will bring you to a subway station, which will bring you to the downtown shopping area within 3 stations. Free wifi and broadband computer in the room, very handy. I will definitely stay in this hotel again if I go to Beijing as it leaves a very good impression.

Great choice to see hutong life”
The Double Happiness Courtyard Hotel is a beautiful hotel in the hutongs of Beijing. The hotel and its courtyards are beautifully decorated. There are even birds out in the entry in the mornings. The breakfast is amazing... a huge spread with some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. The staff are excellent and helped us with so many things like calling taxis, translating place names for us to give to taxi drivers in other cities, and letting us keep our bags there after we checked out. A big plus also was the free Wifi. I had a few problems though with this hotel. I know that beds are notoriously hard in China, but this was ridiculous. It was by far the hardest, most uncomfortable bed during our 2-week stay in China, and we even slept in trains. Also the hotel seemed a bit pricey. It wasn't extremely pricey but it was kind of expensive for China. The good points outweighed the bad, though. I would stay here again. We really enjoyed our walks through the hutong to and from the hotel. Not very easy for taxis to drive around in though.

Doubly Happy With Our Stay”
Fantastic stay at the Double Happiness for a long weekend. Staff are simply awesome - extremely helpful, knowledgeable and very personable. Hotel is well placed to access tourist sites like Tianenman Sq and Forbidden City (we took a long walk directly although the Metro station is a short walk). Rooms are really quaint with a true Chinese style, ye still comfortable. Staff also well placed to arrange excursions. Only real negative was the taxi situation. Not the hotel's fault but a point of interest is that taxis don't like going down the long alleyway that the hotel is situated on..Be prepared to still walk 500m and not get dropped off at your door. Strongly recommend this above a generic chain hotel experience
