Courtyard in the heart of the City”
I have always wanted to stay in a traditional courtyard when I visited Beijing. This time I found a gem right off Wangfujing! Situated just across the world famous shopping street, right behind the Lotte Department Store is this old mansion restored to tip top condition, with modern hot shower/bath, air conditioning & TV. A great place for my sore feet to recover after a long day of sight-seeing & shopping. Due to its approximity to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City etc, you will tend to work your feet a little too hard though.

Convenient location”
Friendly and helpful hotel staff. Nice Chinese local breakfast. It’s just too bad that the Wangfujing Snack Street was closed due to renovations. Nice old style Beijing style courtyard hotel except the bed was quite hard

Unknown Best Hotel in Beijing!”
I am confident that this hotel is one of the best hotel in Beijing, although not welknown. First, the location is wonderful, just a minute to Wangfujing. Second, the staff of thie hotel speaks very good English and give us very fast response. Third, the atmosphere is very good with the garden and old Chinese style room. Only bad point is a little difficult to find this hotel when you go there for the first time.

excellent stay in the heart of Beijing”
large room, easily suitable for an extra bed. perfect shower. The English speaking employees were very helpful in getting organised while in Beijing. Forbidden city is only 10 minutes walking distance away from this place. Taxi drivers should be instructed how to get there. In preparation of the journey it is advisable to write down the name of the hotel and address in Chinese characters and also try to get the telephone number of the hotel for guidance. Once in the hotel you are safe for travel troughout the city.

Lovely hotel with great location”
if you are looking to stay in a classic authentic court yard hotel, this is it. the location is second to none. most shopping malls, transportation, eatery and night markets are within walking reach (3 to 10 mins walk). only big problem is finding the hotel (it took our taxi driver 45 mins to locate it). the reference point is, it is behind motel 268 at no.19 jinyu alley, dongcheng district, beijing 100006, china. we stayed at an economy room without breakfast which is reasonable comfortable and clean with changed of towers everyday. though it does not have attached toilet, it is not a problem at all as the toilets are just a few steps away. attractions like tiananmen square and the palace museum (formerly the forbidden city) are walking distance of 20 to 30 mins. hotel staff spoke reasonably good english and service from them are just adequate. tip on food: don't eat at shopping malls, explore the hutongs and you can have meal for 4 persons for less than us5. i highly recommend this hotel to you if you are visiting beijing.

Good location. Beijing 200 years ancient courtyard”
love the hotel. mine is a economy room with public shared bathroom. sharing only with 3 rooms so no waiting time needed. japanese style bathroom. clean and big. this courtyard mansion is built by a qing general. hence, living in this courtyard hotel is like stepping into ancient beijing 200 years ago. beautifully preserved. the only downside is my room lock and the key is not functioning very well. hopefully it will be replace soon.

Great hotel, friendly and helpful staff”
This is an awesome hotel with excellent location! I stayed in an economy room which doesnt come with toilet and bathroom but that was not a problem at all. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Free WiFi, safety box available at the counter, air conditional. Everything is within walking distance and WangFuJing Street is within 3 minutes walk! Will definitely stay there again for my next trip!

GReat Location”
The hotel was right behind a department store and had two malls across the street. It was several blocks from the Forbidden City and Tienneman Squuare. The hotel itself was old and looked like an traditional Chinese village. The room I chose was very basic and I had to go outside to go to the toilet. However they gave me a free upgrade on my last night and that rooms was very nice. there were a couple of things that got missed on the cleaning of the room before I checked in but that was fixed immediately when pointed out.

Traditional Courtyard Style Hotel with Great Location on Wangfujing Street”
Traditional courtyard style hotel with good location in Wangfujing shopping street. Easily accessible my metro, bus and taxi. Hotel staff were very helpful with our requests. Unfortunately, the hotel didnt have any hot water during our stay there and there was a mild unpleasant sewer smell from the bathroom.

First Time in Beijing”
As this was my first time in Beijing and as a woman travelling alone, I really appretiated the time and effort staff spent in giving me directions and making me feel welcome. I felt very safe in the local area, which was extremely central and easy to travel via subway to the important sites. Though there is no restaurant directly in the hotel (they do serve breakfast), I was very impressed by the quality of the local restaurant they directed me to, only a stones throw away. On my next trip to Beijing I would definately stay in the YWCA Garden Hotel

Beautiful guesthouse with loads of character”
we were upgraded from economy to standard room. it was a lovely stay and staff were attentive and one spoke excellent english. the rooms are slightly overpriced and it was lucky we were upgraded. rooms without bathroom cost more than other nearby hotels with bathroom. you pay for the beautiful courtyard. the location is great - a ten minute walk to forbidden city.

Perfect location, our twin room was tight on space”
This hotel is an old style courtyard hotel, we choose the cheapest room type and got a twin just outside reception. The room was very small and basic for two people with bags but clean. The bathroom was shared just down the walkway outside. We never waited for either the toilet or shower so this wasen't really an issue. The location was perfect, central for shopping and eating and just a short walk to the subway. You can easily walk to all the major city sights - we didn't need to get a taxi once in four days. In general the staff were nice it was sometimes hard to find out what we needed, in saying that they excelled themselves when we decided at the last minute to book a tour to the great wall rather than take public transport. They managed to book us onto a great tour with an English speaking guide at 23.30 the day before the tour.

traiditonal architecture in the middle of town”
I like the traditional architecture of the hotel (courtyard, etc) which is a few hundred years old. As the rooms are made mainly of wood, there is a slight musty smell (which is to be expected of old buildings), but no big deal. The room was clean and staff were friendly. The hotel is quite close to the shopping centres. A leisurely walk to the Wangfujing subway takes about 15 minutes, but do be mindful about using the *closest* exit from the subway. Once, I took the further exit and had to walk another 15 minutes. I didn't try the hotel breakfast, but they do serve western breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausages, etc) otherwise you could hop to McDonald's which is nearby. There was some construction in the road nearby, hence I woke up fairly early in the morning.

Hutong Hotel Beijing”
There is a bit of history in this little hutong hotel which is posted at the entrance. It certainly is very interesting to know of its past. It's much more interesting than staying at those usual standard hotels. The room is very clean and comfortable. Best of all it has free internet connection and it's located in the main shopping street of Wangfujing.

Good location, separate toilet and shower”
decent place to stay if you want to be right in the middle of wangfujing. it is a little hard to find. if you are walking north on wangfujing turn right at the church and then a right and left. the people who worked there were extremely nice.

Lovely hotel full of history and charm”
The room was very small and had no bathroom and was quite expensive when taking this into account. That said, staff were lovely and the hotel is two minutes from Wangfujing St and five to ten minute walk to the Forbidden City.

Value for $, Clean, 5min walk subway, ”
Clean beds, room, nice towels; Friendly staff; poor LAN cable, Wifi OK; Economy room has NO attached bath room . . . common bathroom door has no lock ! frosted glass door, with shower curtain seem too little privacy for ladies.....; room door has pad lock, ontop of door lock. . . small insects will come into room if you do no close windows. Look for "Xing Dong An Shopping Center", and walk behind if you arrive at "Wang Fu Jing Shopping Street", or you just may not find the place. Very convenient.. good value. Take a taxi to Motel 268 may be easier, just next door.

Stay at YWCA Garden Hotel Beijing (November 2008)”
We stayed four days in a Deluxe Suit of this hotel after coming from a Central (four star hotel) hotel in Shanghai. First we got a shock to see this hotel inside. We expected to see a traditionally looking, but comfortable rooms, but saw dust and cold. The impression about the hotel is very contradictory. From one side this is a Chinese traditionally looking building with a sufficiently comfortable bath, but very ascetic rooms. You feel yourself as living in one of the rooms of the Forbidden City with all consequences (dust and cold). This concerns the hotel surrounding also. It is very good located, but on a very narrow and dusty street. During our stay (beginning of November) it was rather cold outside, especially at nights. The central heating did not work. When we arrived, it was extremely cold in the room, since probably it was not used for long and the air condition was off. After one day running the AC the temperature in the room became comfortable. Another thing is the flour, that is also like in the Forbidden City made of painted black stones. It looked dirty, was rather dusty, especially there was a lot of dust under the bed. It looked that the hotel staff does not use a vacuum cleaner at all. We first tried to change our room for a Standard, since they looked more comfortable. Despite that they are a bit smaller, they have a normal wooden flour, it was more warm inside. The hotel staff said that they do not have free Standard rooms. I expect that that was not true, since I have checked at the Agoda site, it was possible to book Standard rooms at this hotel. The hotel does not have its own restaurant. Thus the breakfast one can have in a neighbouring hotel. The food is almost Chinese. After a short conversation with the staff of our hotel, they were giving us yoghurts bred and cheese every morning, proposed to make coffee. The hotel staff also managed for us a trip to the Great wall with an English speaking guide. Thus I do not recommend to buy a Deluxe

Great Location old fashion chinese hutong style”
I visited the hotels it is difficult to find. You must first locate Lotte department store and it is right at the back of the store. The hotel is located at the end wangfujing shopping area and very convenient walk to tiananmen major tourist site. take note that the toilet is outside the room some 10 meters away. Traditional chinese hutong style. good experiance
