Beautiful hotel in a traditional setting”
The Beijing Ruyuan Courtyard hotel exceeded my expectations by a long shot! My husband and I stayed at this hutong hotel during our recent trip to China, as we wanted something that had a more traditional feel than a Hilton or Marriott. The setting of the hotel was beautiful, and the hutong that it was nestled in was so quiet that you forgot you were in busy Beijing. The room we stayed in had clearly been recently redone, and was sparkling clean with amazing bathrooms. We also came to Beijing during a heat wave, and the air conditioning was powerful and saved us! The hotel was a five minute walk from the subway, or a one minute walk to a busy street where you can hail a cab (if you don't have DiDi, which is China's version of Uber). The staff at the hotel were also extremely accommodating. My Mandarin is pretty pathetic, but a few of the staff members spoke English, and those that didn't used translation apps on their phones.

Stay like an emperor”
The Beijing Ruyuan Courtyard Hotel was a revelation, offering a unique opportunity to live like a Qing dynasty aristocrat in historic and well preserved Hutong surrounds. There are so many generic hotels, this one is very special. Breakfasts were sumptuous. Taxi tip: The main road is a short stroll turning right from the hotel. It's much easier to catch one to and from there to get about the city. The Ha Coffee turning left as you reach the main road serves great, home-roasted coffee and has handy business cards with an accurate map to show taxi drivers how to get you home.

Perfect retreat”
The hotel is a little hard to find due to its location in one of the city's traditional hutongs - we had an issue getting there when we first arrived, however after a call to the hotel we were found by the manager who helped us get to our accommodation. The hotel itself is stunning - very tranquil and beautifully designed which hotels often don't get right even if they call themselves "boutique". This one certainly is. The feeling that you are the only guest and can wander along the beautiful, traditional corridors is one of a kind. You can easily forget you're in the middle of such a bustling metropolis. Majority of the staff do not speak English, however their politeness and kindness definitely makes up for it - manager who speaks English is always available even if it means giving her a call! Breakfast in the hotel is made to order (at time specified by you in an on site restaurant) and you can choose a Continental or Chinese version - both are very tasty and recommended. Hotel is very close to busy streets of Beijing and metro is a 5-minute walk away - from there you can get wherever you need to. We definitely had hard time leaving the hotel each morning as it is just so comfortable and quiet! One tip for anyone planning to get a taxi to Ruyuan - check which alleyway you need to be dropped off next to and find the main street's address accordingly as showing your taxi driver the hotel's actual address will result in head shaking and leaving you stranded as they can't/won't drive to the hutongs (none of the taxi drivers we asked knew where it was). Overall a great stay.

Hidden Gem in Beijing”
It is an extremely wonderful experience staying with Ruyuan. It is authentic and tranquil. Well trained staff provided thoughtful and timely service. We wandered in the garden, listening to the bird signing and having a bite of the freshly picked date. What a beautiful day!

Charming courtyard hotel”
The staff were extremely friendly, professional and had a great warm and inviting attitude. Even the cleaning ayis and security guards were trained to say hi and be friendly. Great job to the operations and HR for great hiring and training. The courtyard and decor is simple but elegant. The gym was basic, but very functional. The Western breakfast was not completely Western, but tasty none the less. Juice, coffee, breakfast and then fruit were all served with a smile - a very nice way to start the morning. The room was comfortable and very elegantly decorated with a great shower and bathtub. I just wish there was a towel/towel rack in the downstairs toilet and that the closet were downstairs instead of upstairs in the bedroom so that I didn't have to carry my clothes upstairs when checking in and then back downstairs when checking out - not the most functional/practical. The bed was perfectly firm and pillows soft. The only real drawback for me is that the hutong is very narrow so taxis don't like to drive in and you have to haul your luggage through the alley in and out about 500m, which is ok if you're traveling light, but a bit of a pain in the ass when you've been in 4 cities prior to BJ like I had with a lot of luggage. I will definitely stay here again (when not hauling around so much luggage).

Not in the heart of Sanlitun Bar St. & Embassy Area”
A nice hotel in a difficult to find location which should be marketed as such. Its not in the heart of Sanlitun Bar St. & Embassy Area. The staff are kind but struggle with English and foreign guests. Difficult to hail a taxi given the hutong location.

Nice find in an authentic local neighborhood”
Hard to find, but worth it! Beautiful courtyard and remodeled rooms. Near Beixinqiao (subway Line 5) and lots of good local restaurants.

Good for leisure travel, but not good for business travel”
It is a really nice boutique hotel, and if you are traveling to Beijing for fun, I would recommend staying here, and if you have some budget (between $150-$200 per night depending on when you book it). However, since my travel was partially business, it was not very convenient because of the location, cabs cannot get in very easily, and if you have to drag a suitcase by yourself for some time, you may walk into the hotel sweaty.

Beautiful Hotel but awful location”
The hotel, staff, rooms, architecture is wonderful. Unfortunately the location and access to the hotel is far below expectations. You have to walk in from the main street (where cars pass by) 200m in an side, dirty, hard to access small alleyway in order to reach the hotel entrance. Not very impressive and definitely not somewhere you one would ask clients / visitors to come for a meeting.. Saying that, as soon as you walk through the door (in the picture) feels like you entered a different world. Well re-furbished, clean, very scenic, beautiful little boutique hotel. Old, traditional well restored Chinese house, courtyard.. Very clean rooms and hotel. Only a few rooms, very picturesque dinning facilities. No open buffet, you have to order breakfast a day in advance (Chinese or Continental).. Not recommended for business, but if you want to stay in a clean place and experience real authentic atmosphere i would recommend the hotel.

Beautiful courtyard house”
Wonderful hotel. A unique experience. So glad I stayed here rather than at your typical Western style hotel. Staff has limited English and I only know a few words of Chinese, but I was able to communicate just fine. A special thank you to the bellboy who went out of his way to escort mr to a local shop for snacks and to the bank. You can't bet that type of personal service. I highly recommend.

Very Nice Hotel but Overpriced”
We have to admit the hotel was very intricately designed and furnished. We could see that effort were placed into the details and material selection of the hotel design. But the upkeep of the room and furniture was rather poorly maintained. It has potential to soar beyond a 5-star resort but requires a revamping exercise. The service was rather normal though they allowed us early check-in and late check-out, but aside from that, it was below par a hotel of such stature. We felt that the reception procedure and hospitality was rather cold, in addition to the wintery cold, for such an exclusive hotel. The breakfast looks expansive but was rather disappointing too. Something warm was missing in the preparation and serving. All in all, was rather disappointing for such a very beautiful and interesting hotel.

Maybe with family but not for solo traveler”
The hotel address is a little confusing, it's at the east 4 district 14th alle. Hotel staff did not offer to help with my luggage during check in nor check out (even it's just a carryon suitcase, and I might not need their help but not offering any help is just wrong) room with big and very new but not surprising nor oriental sophisticated. Yard is pretty. Breakfast is boring.

Beautiful hotel but staff do need more training”
Hotel is in good location and just 5 mins walk from metro. It is very quiet, clean, room is big and beautifully decorated. However, staff there are all a bit "green" and do need more training.
