“Blue Rock in a Downward Spiral of Disrepair ”
The Blue Rock, which was once a fairly nice and popular hotel with families, is now in a state of disrepair. You can see how nothing is being repaired or things being taken care of. That fun, happy vibe of the hotel is now gone. And the staff have been cut down substantially that they are required to do multiple jobs just to keep the place running. Accommodations were sub par. The mattress and pillows were uncomfortable, the bathroom was missing the towel bars (I went to the local hardware store and bought some hooks and attached to the wall to hang towels/clothes which I included a picture of) and the sink was leaking profusely at the shut off valve under the sink (told maintenance and he never came back to fix it in the four days that we were there), and there was no WiFi anywhere in the hotel except for one location near the entrance of the hotel (see picture of the chair). But at least the hot water heater for the shower and the air conditioner were working fine. Dining was limited in seating with 1/4 of the roof missing and no tables setup in that area. Plus the menu, which used to be an extensive book of selections, is now down to a piece of paper front and back. We ate there one time on the day that we arrived and the food was okay. We were going to eat there again the night before we left but the atmosphere was so depressing we decided to go elsewhere to eat. Unfortunately, the hotel is so broken and rundown that it’s at the point where it needs to be either demolished or extensively renovated to get it back to a decent place to stay. My recommendation, if you haven’t figured it out by now, is to find a different hotel to stay at. My suggestion is to spend a little more money and stay at the Wild Orchid hotel located basically across the street from the Blue Rock. The facilities, pool, extremely fast WiFi, dining area/food (we ate here the night before leaving and breakfast the day we left), and the accommodations (from what we saw) at the Wild Orchid were outstanding. The next time that we go to Subic that is where we plan to stay.
