Where to stay in Cartagena
Cartagena hotels & accommodations

The NH royal urban is located in the heart of the old district in Cartagena, walking distance from everything. The rooftop pool is a true gem overlooking the city and is well kept. However the rooms are as sterile as could be with white walls and dark wood furniture and barely any art. My fiancé and I called it the #NHbratislava. It has so much more potential!

I don't usually leave reviews but I have to say that my stay at the Hotel Alfiz was probably one of my best hotel experiences, be it a boutique or chain hotel. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. They helped us with directions, bookings and even a police report we had to file for a stolen iPhone. The establishment was quiet, most likely due to...

From pool to ocean in a few walking steps. The room was clean, updated with a nice tile floor (not carpet that hides dust and nastiness) a large tv screen and crisp white linens on the bed. Managed and maintained well. Impressed despite the hotel being an older building--one wouldn't know from the inside.

One of the worst for me. I travel the world. The hotel has 2 buildings the new one and the old one. I was dumped by some nasty clerk in the old building. She gave ma hard time to register, She was as nasty as you ever will find some one. She said I missed my reservation. I had paid for 3 nights prepaid.I reserved the new hotel. She dumped me in the old hotel and gave...

Excellent location in historic Cartagena. The place is modern and clean with very nice helpful staff. The breakfast on the deck was a special treat. Great shopping in this area and lots of restaurants. If you go out the door of the hotel, turn right, walk two blocks, turn right again there is a beautiful court with lots of trees. The Pizza Restaurant on the corner...

Fantastic little hotel about 15 min walk from the walled city. This really is an amazing hidden gem about 5-10 min walk from the walled city. Location was great, the 'grounds' of the hotel were lovely and the traditional feel of the rooms was a nice touch. Really loved it here and cannot wait to go back.

Perfect location at Cartagena walled city. Very good breakfast and friendly staff. Rooms are neat and comfortable. Ijust did not like the fact that I stayed in a room that the toilet door was made of glass, so we could see everything, a little bit of lack of privacy but it was ok. Sometimes one of us had to leave the room. kkkkkkkk Small swimming pool on the top of the...

We have stayed in hotels al over the world and the staff at this hotel were the best we have ever encountered, very friendly and service oriented. It is a charming, traditional hotel in an excellent location within the historic centre of the city. The small rooftop pool and bar are delightful. There is a small gym with aerobic equpment but no weights. The beds are lar...

It was great. Staff was super helpful and polite. They went out of their way to make you feel welcome. The building itself is incredible. Beautiful courtyard with gardens and huge high ceiling rooms. All is a bit outdated but I think that added to the 'Old World' feel. One issue were the plug air refreshers. Either take them out or replace with aromatic natural oils.

We booked this hotel because it was a late trip and very few options were available. The room is nice and the staff is very professional and helpful. The location is also great. However, once we went around we realised that we could have booked a much better boutique hotel and around the same price. Probably with a pool and other facilities.

In the old town center, very convenient for travelling. The location is wonderful! There are many flowers and trees in the hotel, make it more sweet in staying. The only I recommend that if the hotel can equip with kettle, it will be better. Because all the people need to buy plastic botton water, it is really not good for environment.

It was a decent stay. I wanted to feel a bit more special, being a gold elite member at Holiday Inn, but they didn't give me much extra. Instead I was forced to pay for things like local calls. I accepted these extra fees but it would have been nice if they gave me a freebie on this stay In general the rooms are ok, the pool is nice, the gym has a few cardio machines...

I spent 2 nights at the Estancia de La Mantilla. It's in a great location! It's peaceful and quiet. The breakfast is simply yet done with the freshest ingredients, making it so delicious. The staff is super helpful. I enjoyed the stay and moving to a 5 star after that (for work) made the switch a little difficult, I do miss the sanctuary like feel of Estancia d...

We stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Boutique Casa Isabel. Among our highlights were the complimentary breakfasts in the morning and fresh juice drinks as we arrived from touring or a day at the beach. Luis and Jaime, hotel staff who were there to immediately attend to us, are just the loveliest people. This hotel is also just around the corner from the Plaza Trinidad, wher...

We stayed as a couple before our wedding. We had four rooms booked in the hotel. Although there was some confusion with the booking before we arrived everything was fine once we were in Cartagena. The hotel helped with dry cleaning and transfers from the airport for our family. Everyone was very happy with their rooms and the breakfast next to the swimming pool on the ...

The location was great, close to the hub of Getsemani and just a short walk from outside the walls of the old town. Air conditioning in the rooms which is a relief from the heat of Cartagena. Unfortunately the internet did not work very well most of the time.

Modern hotel in traditional style. Very friendly people. Great, colourful (and safe) neighbourhood with lots of bars & restaurants. 10 minutes walk to city centre. Great Caribean vibe with locals and young backpackers. Street art and salsa music everywhere.

I am not a luxury traveller at all but staying one night at this hotel was a really unpleasant experience. The room was very basic and you could not regulate the aircon so you were constantly freezing. The people at the hotel looked like refugees. Location is ok I guess and the staff did what they could but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Cheap places to stay in Cartagena

I loved this hostel mostly due to the staff and fellow travelers. From management to the daily staff members, everyone was very friendly and helpful with whatever you needed. Thus is located in a great area of the city and a quick walk to most of the popular destinations you want to visit.

Booked a double room with toilet/shower. Diana and her husband were very friendly and kind during our stay and overall I had a great time. This is a great budget option for travellers to Cartagena. Although it does come with a few caveats: - Casa Torices Real is located in a real, rather poor Barrio close to the old city (about 7 minutes by taxi). As such, it's importa...

This is the perfect place to stay if you want a safe, clean refuge in a convenient area. I booked for 2 nights and stayed for much longer than that in the end, using it as a base to travel to the islands and other places. This is a family run affair but the people are lovely (massive understatement) and give you the latitude to feel welcome and comfortable. During my ...

So far that was the best place ive been in colombia ! Theresa is such a wonderfull women always smilling kinda of mama . I loved her vibe and the way she manage her hotel . There is never any problems . I would go back there anytime . Thanks again for the confy bed , the clean place . Just perfect

This hotel offers excellent value with a great location just outside the old city walls of Cartagena. The room was spacious and clean and included a small refrigerator which was great. Staff were very friendly and were happy to help providing directions and recommendations for places to go and where to eat. The complimentary buffet breakfast was much better than expect...

Hotel Magdalena was everything we needed and more in Cartagena. We flew in late and just needed to relax. Our room was clean, quiet and best of all, cold! We decided to travel to Santa Marta and the staff at Hotel Magdalena were kind enough to let us store our things while we travelled. We had such a good experience that we stayed several more nights upon our return. E...

The best place to stay in Cartagena, Juan and his auntie are the most welcoming people I have ever meet. The rooms are large, clean and modern . It is well located and close to the center and even at night it feels safe to walk around. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was good. Insulation in the room isn’t great so it could be a problem if the neighbors are loud, but it was quite ok for us. There are a couple of restaurants in the same street. The WiFi isn’t great and you’d better get closer to the...

The stay was okay for business as it mostly met our requirement for the first meeting around the dock's businesses. Though the area was not quite enough, we enjoyed our breakfast with American and Colombian traditional. Staffs are friendly and helpful. The receptionist in the morning was kind and nice. She helped us to arrange a short trip around the city though it was...

The lobby had a mildew odor, and was not air conditioned. the entire building was very dated. the rooms are Spartan, and there is 1 A/C vent in the room that is centrally controlled. I had to move the bed so the air from the lone vent would cool me. The breakfast was OK, nothing special. Service was slow, but polite.

The staff was friendly, not all spoke English which was only a minor inconvenience. The taxi had a very difficult time finding the place (we stopped to ask 6 people on the street, including vendors, as well as 3 traffic police who flagged down another on a motorbike, none knew where the hotel was located). We ended up finding it essentially by chance when I recognized ...

the downside of this hotel is 15 to 20 mnts walk to the main centre, its safe though in colombia any time after 8pm its best to catch a taxi. that said, i walked back to the hotel every night prior to that hour along the seaside main road. all staffs were polite & friendly, one particularly reception chap even speak english. rare to find! fully recommended, i would de...

Love the location, a busy street but beautifully central, yet very quiet inside. The small pool was a joy to cool down in, the rooftop breakfasts were delicious and the views superb - and we managed to sneak up to the very top roof for a quiet siesta alone at times! Very helpful staff and comfy beds.

Easy two block walk to airport terminal... I walked to this hotel from the airport terminal at 1am - no problems. Understanding how the streets are laid out definitely helps or just use a GPS. Nice breakfast and super helpful and friendly staff. Perfect.

The front desk staff had no control if bookings were made by Agoda or directly at the hotel. They did not know if Agoda would pay the hotel, or they should charge the guests directly. They did not check mails to confirm that they had received Agoda bookings until they were forced to by us.

This hotel was WAY overpriced. There was so much street noise, I might as well have been sleeping on the street itself. The bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable. I stayed two nights and got very little sleep. I asked to change rooms, but a comparable room was not available. The staff was incredibly friendly, the breakfast was good, and the internet was fast. ...

The hotel is located in Bocagrande a 10minute taxi ride from downtown Cartagena. The staff were friendly and were always smiling. The pool is relaxing, but quite small for such a large hotel. The views from all rooms and the pool are lovely. The cocktails are delicious! The beach at Bocagrande is not that great, you will get hassled for cabanas, sunglasses and hats. We...

Arrived in Cartagena for a conference at the Hilton Hotel. Having stayed at the Hilton for a previous conference, I wanted to experience the real Cartagena. I couldn't have picked a better hotel. The Casa Canabal is in an area with a few other boutique hotels and backpacker hotels/hostels and is not in the touristy areas. The hotel itself is an oasis of tranquility, wi...

My stay at Hotel Don Pedro was nice. I was there for only one night because the hotel I stayed at for the rest of my trip was sold out the first night I arrived. It was a pleasant and lovely hotel in the Center of everything. There are many good restaurants near and the room was nice for the night I was there.

If you want to get away from Cartagena and just relax, this place is great. My girlfriend and I ended our Cartagena trip with a 3 day stay here and it was just what we needed - big rooms, great beach, quiet, secluded. And Olga is so warm and accommodating. Highly recommend!

This is a very nice hotel. IT is located in a very nice house, an old house, but everything has been renovated. IT opened 7 months ago. The best thing was the staff, they were all great. This is very unusual in Cartagena. The second best thing was the architecture of the house, a very nice place. Breakfast was fine, although not amazing. The room had a safe and free wi...

Absolute right hotel in Cartagena. Location, facilities, staff, friendliness, rooms you name it. Hotel Caribe Cartagena have it all and on the other side of the street you have the beach. 10 min to the old town. What more do you want. Excellent definitely not last time for us.

We booked this room for our friends who have an 8 month old daughter. They loved it so much. Beautiful view of the beach from their room. The breakfast was very luxurious, and the definitely took advantage of the private beach in front as well. The only negative was the amount of beach vendors, especially the massage ladies who were very rude and pushy, even after ...

This hotel met all of its claims. It is a little distance from Cartagena but has a frequent free shuttle bus to the airport and old city. The food and variety of food were excellent and the activity options very good. This is a very good family destination. We speak Spanish but non Spanish speakers may find the going difficult

We had a good stay at this hotel. The place is a Impressive Cartagena/Colonial style Heritage Hotel with friendly staff who provide well for your needs. Despite being a small hotel it is well equipped and the staff are knowledgeable about Cartagena and are able to provide information on local restaurants, gyms, transport, tours and activities. The rooms are faithful to...

Nice big room view on swimming pool and beach. Bathroom very clean with shower and bathtub robe, iron, hair dryer everything to be a 5 stars hotel. don't bother, there are plenty more places in cartagena, this one is not recommended. incapable staff, not clean and if i could upload pics so u would believe me u would be shocked. hard bed, dead bugs, this place almost ruined our experience in the city.

I love this property. The bed room is cozy and comfy, the bed is heaven. Dining and living room makes me feels like home. Juan Carlos, the owner show me where to lunch, knowing i dont speak Spanish , he even write what i have to order so i get the right food. His recomendation to dine at La Vitrola Resto make my trip completed !!!

The best part of the city is the beaches. The historic city can be seen in a couple of hours and it isnt that great, other than the restaurants.
Do NOT go to Cartagena to relax on the beach, it will NOT happen. You will be pestered each and every second you are on the beach, massage, food, music players, etc.
Don't come here for the beaches, they are dirty brown and the water does not look clean either. Lots of trash and the peddlers of fruit, massage, and trinkets will go beyond annoying! The best part of Cartagena is Centro, the old walled city.
This was my second visit to Cartagena. The local food is fantastic and there are lots of bars and restaurants open late into the evening.
In my opinion, Cartagena is beautiful. Lots of history and the nightlife is great. In checking out the sights, I would suggest "La Chiva".
Fantastic place- is a cross between elegance and a state of decay depending on the street, but overall you feel like you have stepped back in time.
I went in November: too hot during the day. Besides for walking in the city, touristic attractions are expensive.
