Essaouira hotels & places to stay

My husband and I spent 2 nights at this Riad. The staff, Hasna was friendly and helpful. She took us to a nearby restaurant which served delicious Moroccan food. Also she made sure our own computers worked at the lobby as there was no connection inside the room. Room was clean, but the bathroom light was dim. Unfortunately our room faced the roof terrace whereby 2 large dogs barked for an hour or so the 2 nights we were there, but that only lasted until midnight.So we did get enough sleep. The proprietor and staff served delicious freshly squeezed in season clementine juices for breakfast every morning. The location of the Riad was inside the medina and we arrived at night, so we paid someone at the parking lot to transfer our luggage as well as show us where the Riad was. All in all, we have no complaint to stay at this budget riad.

This was my partner's favourite place we stayed in all of Morocco. Our room was enormous and clean, very comfortable. The bed was one of the softest we found in Morocco and still had a good mattress. The riad itself is stylish and open concept and feels very safe. The rooftop patio is spaceous and a full 360 pano view. I will mention we got our room just after it had been cleaned and the products they use are fairly scented (not a bad smell just a little strong) but I'm sure if we had notified them before hand that I was sensitive to perfume that they would have arranged it otherwise. With the windows and AC fan the room aired out quickly and it wasnt much of an issue. The breakfast was moroccan and very good/fresh. Croissants/pastries were delicious, and fresh squeezed juice a delight. The coffee was abundant. It was very close to the bus station, and the beach, and about a 15 min walk from the Medina. The best part about the riad was the owners. Their local tips and map was spot on, really helped us maximize our time in Essouaira. They were excellent hosts, very accessible and knowledgeable. They also speak many languages between the two of them. Would not hesitate to highly recommend this place to anyone going to Essouaira.

Nothing much bad to say about this place. The only "problem" we had, was that we were missing a shower curtain. This meant that the entire bathroom floor would get wet, and drip out into the main part of the room. An easy fix. Other than that however, we very much enjoyed our stay. The interior of the hotel is beautifully decorated in antique moroccan style, and feels spacious despite the tight location. The ceilings are high in the rooms of this 200 year old building, and the common area is a tranquil indoor courtyard with plenty of light and comfortable lounging space. The atmosphere really makes you feel like you are in a different part of the world. I would definitely come again.

Pros- Good location in the medina (near everything, yet off the main thoroughfares for less noise), comfortable upper deck with ocean view CONS - Owner sits at the front door chain-smoking (which wafts up through the riad like a wind tunnel) and talking loudly into the wee hours of the morning (then argued with other guests that asked him to keep it down) - After that lovely night's rest, I was hounded at breakfast an hour before checkout that I needed to 'pay now and get my bag out of my room'

This is the first hotel I stayed after arriving in Morocco, and it gave me a great first impression about this country. The owner is very friendly and helpful (also very multilingual). From pickup at bus station, tourism guidance to serving dinner, he does everything to make his guests feel like at home. The room is clean with local decorations, the food is great (the best chicken tajine and fruit salads during my stay in Morocco actually), other guests I met here are also very easy-going, will definitely recommend this lovely place to others.

A little hard to find to begin with...but I think that was more down to us than the hotel. The owners & staff were great from the start. The Riad has 8 bedrooms...singles, doubles & triples all en suite, spread across 3 floors. The rooms (we had 2 of them) were bright, clean & the en suite facilities were excellent with super powered showers with hot water at any time. There was always a staff member on hand if you needed help with anything or required tourist information. We only stayed 1 night as we were travelling around Marrakech, which was a shame as the hotel was well worth the £23 per room per night including breakfast when booked through Agoda. The breakfast was amazing. The tables on the roof terrace were far too small to take the size of the breakfast & the coffee was, without doubt, the finest we found in Morocco during our fortnight there. Highly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Riad El Mess. The riad itself is beautiful, authentic Moroccan and within the medina itself, just a walk away from all the restaurants and shops. We were given a great room, Room4, and it was huge with a huge comfortable bed and covers, bathroom, couch and chairs. Hot shower was always functional, never had to take a cold bath in cold Essaouira! The free breakfast was simple but great, they'd serve you even if you woke up at 11am :) The hotel's best asset is its staff, just wonderful, helpful and very friendly. Yisham in particular was very kind and exceeded our expectations, helped us throughout our stay.

We enjoyed our stay for about 10 days at Riad Etoile de Mogador. Each morning they serve you a good breakfast on the pleasant sunny roof. They are always available for anything you could ask. About details as Wi-Fi, hot shower, cleaning, tinting place, roof terrace to enjoy outside... All thumbs-up. The situation at center of medina is just perfect for Essaouira. Everything is happening there. We warmly recommend this place.

Restaurant, Cafe & Hammam obviously not existing any longer No sun beds on the roof terrace Boring breakfast inattentive service - obviously bored by clients No response to online requests Rooms clean; bathrooms have seen better times - no dryers Currently (Nov 2019) a construction site next to the hotel with construction work at day & disposal of waste starting midnight (!!) - no excuse or looking for a solution of management at all Conclusion: Not worth the money & certainly not to be recommendded for a stay of more than 1-2 nights....

rooms are small but nicely furnished and clean. the hotel is located in a nice back alley if the Medina in a 10 minute walking distance of the port. breakfast uninspiring in comparison to hotels with a similar price in Morocco. the French owner actually seems to be annoyed by her guests and only seems to be nice to fellow french people while ignoring the others. the staff has the same attitude and as a guest you sometimes feel like a burden. make sure you have ready the exact amount of your hotel bill when you pay as the staff will not have any change and the pay by card charge is rather steep. apart from these negative points it is still a nice spot in essaouira.

We stayed one week. Great base. Staff excellent , very amenable and helpful. In medina within walking distance of all amenities. Mosque very close so we heard bilal loud and clear, but we expected and adjusted to this. Only downside was closeness to Bar Tavos which had loud music which we were surprised at it being in the old city. Music did finish at 10.45 though. Proprietor says she's in negotiation with Tavos over noise levels. Overall we had a great stay!!
