Where to stay in Thakhek
Thakhek hotels & accommodations

We used Thakhek as a base to do some trekkings and sightseeing around the province. The location of Inthira Thakhek is very good since we booked the tours with Green Discovery Laos, which in fact is at Inthira. The price was not bad, but I found it a little bit expensive for asian standards. The air conditioner of my room was making the power go down so they changed us...

At 20 USD per night for the 30 sq mtr standard room, the Mekong is excellent value when in Thakhek. The other hotels/guesthouses in the area are either smaller and/or more expensive for the same price. The 2nd and 3rd floors also give great views across the Mekong river at night.

Stayed here New Year's Eve; new hotel (three years old), beautifully decorated and designed. Our room at the back was only fifteen dollars; if we were staying again (and we would stay here if we were coming to Thakhek again) I would spring for a slightly more expensive room at the front of the hotel with a river view. Good breakfast with excellent coffee.

The Dongsay Hotel is pretty new so everything is fresh and clean. Our Double Room was spacious with large windows and a very comfortable king size bed. The buffet breakfast was adequate, it included eggs, toast, fruit, Laos noodles, a duck dish, sausage & ham, porridge, instant coffee, orange drink, and tea. Although the staff spoke little English we were able to co...

I came very late in the night (Lao transportation and horrible roads) - I had no issues to check in. The room was really nice. Bathrooms a little bit far away and poor quality but it doesn;t matter. Very nice breakfast, great views and places to chillout.

This hotel is in need of a major facelift!!!! There were holes in the wall in the main building. Whilst it was right next the Mekong, music from the jumping castle in the night market starts around 5pm then stops around 9pm just in time for the karaoke next door to start & continues until midnight. I was placed in the motel style room next to the main building and I wo...

Booked the hotel at the last minute and were due to arrive just after midnight. Unfortunately due to bus failure we did not arrive until just after 5am to find a smiling night clerk who could not have been more helpful or efficient and also proceeded to tell us that we had been upgraded to a superior room. The room was a revelation, particularly for the price. Despite ...

Getting there was a bit of a hassle, mostly because the name is a weird one to say and have the Tuk Tuk drivers understand...but it's really not that far from town (about a 20 minute walk) and the receptionist was on to it for all of our needs. We were the only non-asians there, but the staff do their best to understand what we needed. The one downside was the water su...

We booked the hotel an agoda but upon arriving in Thakek at about 7pm at the bus station we found that none of the tuk-tuk drivers or anyone we asked who worked at the station knew where it was. We took a tuk-tuk to the centre of town and asked for directions in a hotel but still found it impossible to find, we ended up staying at a guesthouse in the centre of town.

Nice hotel, within price range of other nicer hotels in the area. It seemed very clean. Location is pretty far from the town, so there are no restaurants nearby though the hotel itself does have a restaurant. Free breakfast was provided every morning which was a huge plus. Wifi was spotty. Staff spoke very limited English, but were very pleasant and helpful otherwise. ...

Well located in Thakhek, we decided to book 2 Superior rooms for our family of 2 ad and 2 children (5 & 7). Price was reasonable but when we arrived, they gave us 2 rooms in the old building in which toilets are the worst we’ve seen in many travels (including Madagascar...). We insisted to move and they tried to make us pay 30’000 kip (only 3 euros) for sthg that shoul...

Real reviews for hotels
Aside from strolling around the city center, there are more interesting things to go see outside town.
Tha Khek is very small so activities are confined to the waterfront and a few streets in the centre of town.
Thakhek is really a terrible place. There is nothing there to see or do and the people do not seem very happy at all.
Very small town indeed, but there are many things to discover and experience as well like those old French style houses .
Thakhek is a base town for outdoor activities, such as trekking, caving and rock climbing. The unique and dynamic landscape of limestone mountains are must-see.
Thakhek doesn't have a heart or real centre. Consequently it has very little character. Overall it is run down but not in a way which is beautiful.
