Fantastic ”
We really enjoyed our stay here. By booking ahead this place offers great value. The room ( king suite) was modern, clean and spacious. Inroom wifi good, better in the lobby. Heating / cooling system was quite. The king bed comfortable. Tv had clear reception. Bathroom features duel shower and separate bath. The cleaners did a great job, daily top ups of bottled water and toiletries. All staff were friendly and always willing to help (David from melbourne in particular) was very helpful. We didn't dine there but the menu and restaurant looked good. Would stay at the Grand Mecure beijing again without blinking. 10 / 10 guys

Great location, good value, clean and friendly”
This is a great location near the center of Beijing. A very long walk to the forbidden city, but well located near the Lama temple and several charming hutong. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is clean, modern, and well kept. The breakfast is not included and pricey. The staff are not all proficient at English, so the international traveler with limited Mandarin will do okay, but may need to ask a few different staff members to be understood. But for Beijing, the level of English is rather good, as most other places will have staff with far less English. I will happily return. Very pleased with my stay.

Pleasant surprise with such price and location”
Usually so-called 5-star hotels in China managed by Chinese groups turn out to be 4-star. But this one is well-managed and live up to the 5-star requirement. Room is big with 250 sq ft. Heat is great. Even hot water comes within 10 seconds rather than letting the water running for 1 minute before hot water comes. Very good location in a busy local neighborhood near Nan Luo Gu Xiang. For this kind of price, I'll stay there again, so let's hope it won't become more expensive with increasingly more reviews that are so positive

Average stay”
We stayed at Grand Mercure Dongcheng for 4 nights. Location was okay - 10mins walk from Beixinqiao train station and 20mins walk Guijie. Other than that, there wasn’t much around so location wise isn’t the most convenient. Even though it was relatively empty at check-in, it took 15mins before they attended to us. Even though there were available staffs, nobody offered to help. The room was mediocre and old for the price. The TV wasn’t working well, toilet door couldn’t close fully and dust laid on the TV table top. When we called for help, the staff told us that the issues were normal and we can’t watch TV at night because of bad reception (???). The worst part of it was that we saw him wipe his hands (full of dust) on our bedsheets. This is probably the worst service we’ve seen. We insisted on changing a room and told the receptionist our encounter which was met with a laugh - unprofessional service for a reputable chained hotel. Average stay, can find better for the price.

Good facilities but staff needs to be improved”
Since Grand Mercure is an international chain, I would not expect less on the comfort and and quality. The bed, rooms were all up to standards. However for an international chain, we found communication with the front desk staff to be complicated as they did not have good understanding of English. We almost were charged double as they did not cancel the deposit taken from our credit cards. We were lucky to have a colleague who could speak and understand Mandarin with us for the trip. The front desk staff who did our billing was not polite and lacked customer service skills (not even a smile !). Hope this can be improved in the future.

Nice hotel but not 5 stars”
Got upgraded to a premium room which was very spacious and comfortable. Overall, this is a nice hotel in a very convenient location that offers very good value for money but it is definitely not a 5 star hotel-there is no swimming pool, the gym room is very small and you do not get all these small luxuries that make a 5 star hotel.

I stayed at this hotel so that I could easily walk to the Hutongs and wander around. It was great for this, and I really enjoyed my two nights at the hotel. I took the train from the airport, then the subway - it is easy walking distance.

located at a great area, filled with the traditional culture, lots of food and things to see around the hotel. 5 mins walk from the nearest subway station . Hotel is generally clean, bed is very comfortable, great service. However they have a tendency to provide worn out towels . Suspect they don't have enough to go around for their guests? Concierge was helpful, but very lack of information on the tour that was offered through the hotel, no detail explaination given. They are not sure themselves!

Very nice hotel and service minded staff :-). Only drawback ist the missing SPA (only open on paper) and the somewhat noisy corridor and airco in some areas. However, the front desk staff was very open finding the best fitting solution.

Had a wonderful time. We booked a fantastic tour to the Great Wall that picked us up from the hotel and took us in a private car to the Wall, the Jade Museum, lunch, Dr Tea and a silk shop!

Great location but fabric of the hotel seen better days”
Plus points are cost and location. A really good place to stay near to the main touristic parts of Beijing whilst actually being in a regular neighbourhood area with excellent local restaurants. On the negative side, the hotel has been acquired by ACCOR and the rebrand and makeover of the hotel building has been really poorly done. For example, door jam broken into the room, shower door loose, generally sloppy building work. The cleanliness of the breakfast area also needs attention. e.g. stains on the table cloths there several days in a row. A real shame as the location and general hotel are good.

Breach of protocol”
Housekeeping entered my friend’s room despite the DND sign turned on and another DND sign hung on the door handle. We realised it when we came back after a day of sight seeing. Worst was the room was made up half way only. It was fortunate that nothing went missing. An advice to other stayers not to leave valuables in sight even if you had the DND sign turned on.
