Great place to stay for a few days while you explore the Great Wall ”

I booked this hotel as a surprise for my husband on his birthday - when we arrived there were no guests only us !! We were immediately upgraded to a room with a view of the Great Wall and our room was lovely - the view was outstanding !! As we were the only guests we had to inform them in the mornings if we were going to eat in the hotel - which we did every evening as the everything closed in the village at 6pm - the food was simple and tasty and big portions and the staff ( one lovely lady called Li ) took good care of us - I would definitely recommend this hotel even if it is in need of a good refurbish in the lobby the views are spectacular and well worth the money

Hi there, We stayed 1 night in the Home of the great wall. We had a panorama room (family room for 4 with 1 queen bed and 2 single beds for the kids, it was perfect for us). The room is huge with a nice bathroom and a nice living/kitchen room for 4 (walls do separate kitchen from the room but the ceiling is open between the 2 rooms). We slept very well, mattresses were fine and the room and surroundings were quiet. The shower temperature and pressure were fine too. We didn't bring any food but you have everything you need to stay several day : big fridge, stoves, pans, table and 4 chairs.... Staff barely speak English (really just few words...), no breakfast served the day we were there (try to bring some snacks for the kids...). The rooms are located in several small houses on the hill and it took us a while to find where the reception was (we arrived late the day before and were directly brought to our room by the Chinese man on duty so no clue where reception/restaurant were). The big plus : - Hotel provide car service from the airport/Beijing if you book several days in advance (though it seemed expensive to us). - You walk down the hill for 10-15 minutes and when you cross the main road, you walk to the right for about 50-100 meters and you arrive at the Great wall of Mutyaniu center. This is where you buy your ticket for the bus to the great wall, where you buy the cable car tickets and so on... It is like a small village with plenty of restaurants, coffee shops and souvenirs shops and also I think a museum (we could have had a breakfast here if we had known...). Then you board from this center on the next bus going to the wall (I guess buses depart every few minutes) and it is a short 10 minutes drive. We had left our luggages at the hotel and the car service provided by the hotel met us at 4 pm at the bottom of the great wall (where you have another 1-2 restaurants too) with our luggage loaded in the car. It was a very good choice and an easy option t

Large, clean, cosy rooms-but no service / internet”

large room, huge bath-room, enough parking space, close (3km) to Great Wall

First it took some time to find the place. The Hotel is split into two parts: the expensive one up on the hill with great view on the great wall, which is also indicated as location on the website and which is also where the signs on the street will guide you. And there is the "low-price" one with the rooms I took. Low-price is 600 RMB per night - which is actually not too low in comparison what you could get in Beijing. At check-in the staff was very friendly, but no one spoke English. The rooms are made of brick-walls which gives a very cosy feeling. The bathroom is huge and nicely done. The rooms appear clean. Unfortunately the rooms are not very sound-proof. The first nights the neighbor rooms were not booked and I had a peaceful time. The last night I had people on both sides and I found the TV and entertaining-the-baby noises rather disturbing. But solid walls is something I have hardly experienced in China anyways - even in higher star hotels. Internet server WiFi has been indicated on my iPad, but I could not get any connection. Even 3G did not work for me so I have been cut-off the outside world. During my 4 Night stay the rooms have not been serviced once which is a little bit disappointing taking the price level. I do not necessarily expect that the linen are changed, but it would be nice to get another set of shower gel after 2 days. The hotel is not exactly walking distance to the great wall - it is about 3km up the hill walk. If you need an ok place to stay for the night - go for it. If you want a Great Wall experience it might be too remote. Be aware that the locks are a bit of a joke and the rooms do not have a safe deposit box. So be prepared to carry your valuables with you at all times.

Home from home”

Despite the property being at the very top of a hill and difficult to find, the location is completely worth it! We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a Wall view room and getting to the tourist base of the Wall itself was less than a 10 minute walk. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay here and the owner was so welcoming and kind.

Accommodation near Mutianyu Great Wall”

we had an extremely pleasant weekend. the non-english speaking staff were very attentive and helpful - we were the only guests in the whole complex!; the food was scrumptious and the room sparsely but nicely appointed. i did think the price high especially for the off-season. it was difficult to actually find the hotel though. it would be beneficial to have a phone number on the booking. the actual hotel may have been 2km in a direct line; however, was more like 4 -5kms drive away, so you didn't a driver as due to the winter season the bus service does not operate. this we found out when strandard at hauriou. however, in true chinese tradition someone was soon offering their assistance which was invaluable. such lovely and gracious people.

Stay here if you ONLY care about the view”

I booked this hotel with high hopes and was very disappointed . The pictures were of a great view, website showed an amazing place and the staff I worked with, Lily, was amazing. Unfortunately this is where the positives ended. The hotel is very far from Beijing so be expected to pay a very high price to get there via taxi. We were stuck looking for a taxi and ended up having to pay nearly $130 just to get to the hotel because they did not have transportation available and no taxi wanted to take us that far. The next day it seemed as if we were the only ones there - no staff, no food or beverages available, and no other visitors. The website lies about having transportation, there is NONE. You will have to pay 100 CNY to get to the wall (less than a 5 minute drive) and back or take a 45 minute walk - mind you it is a horrible walk and that is only to get to the wall. The walk is so steep that the taxi we took had a hard time making it up the hills - be careful. The hotel itself is very unique and we did love the atmosphere, but all the other negatives overruled it. You will have bugs in your room, which did not bother us, but there were quite a lot. It was clean considering the type of hotel, but if spiderwebs and bugs bother you do not stay here. They do have AC which was nice once it finally kicked in. The best thing about this hotel by far is the view. You do have a nice view and can see the Great Wall in the distance once the fog/smog disappear. Also, Lily was amazing and very helpful. She was one of the only staff members who spoke English, so you had to call her directly to get any information or help, but when you did she would help as much as possible. This hotel has a lot of opportunity to be an amazing spot, but definitely needs to provide more amenities for its visitors with the price it charges as well as provide a shuttle or transport to the great wall.

Not What is Promised”

You could acyually walk to the Great Wall at Mutianyu if you wanted, although it is probably about 2-3km.

If you book, you will not get any of the rooms that are shown on the website. All of the photos less for one are of the high-end and very expensive hotel which is on top of the mountain. The hilltop is a wonderful site, and doubtless would be a great place to stay, if it weren't so expensive. If you book a room though, you will actually finish up in a room down in what appears to be an industrial estate at the bottom of the mountain. The rooms themselves are spacious and not too bad, although the fittings leave something to be desired at this price. No views, and they turn off the outside lights at ten o'clock, leaving you to grope around in the dark in the alleyways between the rooms. There is no real reception [you get booked in at the bar in a big tourist restaurant, and no facilities whatsoever. Very expensive for what you get. This place has been set up to make money out of tourists. I would go somewhere else.

Spacious room, located in Huai Rou and suburb”

Spacious room, good food in restaurant

I stayed at the barracks, foothill. Spacious room, and clean. Very basic amenities provided, no hair dryer. Very quiet. Visited the rooms at the top of the hill, view is so-so, though you can see Mutianyu from afar. There is a villa property (with courtyard, 4 bedrooms, living room and a kitchen) located just 15min walk to Mutianyi managed by the same management. You should check that out. Suggest you to arrange for your own transport as it's in a middle of nowhere. Nothing to do nearby.

The wrong place to be unless you have your own car”

Nice location and nice aesthetic in the room, but the beds are hard, the fixtures don't function well, there is limited hot water. Air conditioning worked ok. The location is at the top of a very steep hill. If you're walking to the GW, you need to consider that you'll have to climb back up what is one of the steepest driveways I've ever experienced - it's about 1km long. In the heat of summer, it's a burden.

a lonely and scary night!!!”

Hier moesten we heen.
