"It's an average hostel in terms of decor and look and that goes up to spectacular because of it's location.
Stay in Tianxiang to get much more convenient access to the Taroko Gorge walks instead of staying in Hualien or Xincheng.
It feels a bit on the pricey side, but considering the lack of other options and its relatively secluded location it's pretty good. Try to get a room facing the mountain, it's an amazing view.
Staff are friendly and accommodating
Only negative was the food, very oily veggies for dinner and breakfast, but a lot of breakfast is like this in Taiwan.

"Being a resort hotel, it has many activities in addition to a great rooftop pool, hot tubs and a tennis court. I saw there were activities for kids and a spa for the adults. In the evening there was an aboriginal performance and a movie. My room was a good size with a nice view of the river. Like most Taiwan hotels there are different room sizes. When you book just specify what you want. The mini-fridge had a couple of free items in it including a facial mask and there were some snacks. Nice little details. The room is somewhat dated, but still shows nice. I had wished the bathroom would have contained some marble from the area, but instead had a pinkish color tile.
I arrived early and my room was not ready so they took my bag. It would have been nice to wait in a lounge and have a drink, but I did not find one. So I got my Taiwan beer at the stall across the parking lot then climbed to the Tianfeng pagoda and found some other trails (uphill). I left reception my email and they emailed me when my room was ready.
I purchased the “Western” dinner package which was a very abundant buffet consisting of many stations which I thought was reasonable for NT$880 including service fee. There is a Chinese dinner available which looks to be off a menu. Breakfast was also a buffet with many stations.
How to get there? If you don’t have a car, there are many other ways to get there. The Hotel has a shuttle (fee) from Hualien. Call first to make reservations. I took a train down from Yilan to the Xincheng station and then a local bus to Tianxiang. The Taiwan Tourist shuttle bus also goes to Tianxiang from the Xincheng station.

"We had two amazing nights at Liwu Hotel. The owner Johnny (if I'm not mistaken) was friendly and helpfull. He would answer any question regarding your stay and nearby attraction. We enjoyed our breakfast meal too. Don't expect fancy food. The hotel provided bread, porridge, buns, simple salad, coffee and tea. Hot water/cold water is available at the dining area.
We took a bus from Xincheng Train Station. Just mention Liwu Hotel and the bus driver will bring you to a bus stop just nearby the hotel. The hotel is just 10-15 minutes walk to Taroko National Park centre. You can also explore the Liwu river, located just behind the hotel. There's a nearby 7-11 store and small restaurants too. Easy to take a bus to Xincheng/Hualien train station too."

"This hotel is located in Bulowan an area of outstanding natural beauty surrounded by mountains and greenery within the Taroko National Park. It is an ideal base for exploring Taroko Gorge. It is built of wood and fits beautifully into the natural surroundings. There are a lot of pictures and artifacts made by the areas aboriginal inhabitants. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and gave us good suggestions of suitable hikes for our family of 5. The Bulowan area is much more scenic and peaceful than Tianxiang the only other place with accommodation option within the park. However there are no shops or other restaurants within walking distance. Every night there was a BBQ set dinner. We had been led to believe that this was going to be wild mountain food and to be honest it was a bit of a Chinese buffet and lacked the special mountain foods we were expecting. However this may have had to do with the hotel being quite full due to the Chinese October holiday. The breakfast was also quite local although perfectly adequate. Our room was a tribal suite with six beds although these were just mattresses on the floor. The kids loved sleeping in what was like a wooden long house. The kids also loved the huge pile of pork ribs they had for dinner! There were also several short trails you could do from the hotel. We didn't really bother with the aboriginal show as it was in Chinese and although we understand Chinese it was less about traditional culture than entertainment for the Chinese group tourists so we preferred the peace of our room. The kids loved the bit during the buffet when some of the staff dressed in traditional costumes acted out the hunters return with flaming torches and one of the carved wooden pigs strung between them that heralded the offering of the BBQ spare ribs! We wished we could have stayed longer."

"Indeed, the hotel is beyong our expectation. everything is fine. great location. breakfast is simple, but good.
they provide the firm mattress we like it. we had a great night.
the only thing to mention and hoping they would improve is the sticky feel of the floor. dont get me wrong. the room is clean, i believe the sticky feeling left to the floor is due to the detergent residue. they should wipe it one or two more times to get rid of the detergent residue.
other than that, the hotel is really great."

"We are truly grateful to Maggie for welcoming us into her beautiful home, and making our stay so comfortable with her warm hospitality. She was ever so attentive to our needs, lending us her heater and taking special care to note our dietary requirements (even making it her personal mission to discover our food preferences through her yummy cooking). Although Viasea is a bit of a distance from Hualien main city, it’s much nearer to Taroko National Park and coming back to this lovely residence is worth the travel from the city. We’re also grateful for Maggie’s advise and recommendations on directions - especially since neither of us spoke Mandarin. Thank you Maggie for the loveliest stay!"
