Great stay”
The hostel is good value for money. It's not super social, but the rooms are clean and nice. The check in and checkout was without problems. The owner was available in his back room nearly all the time. Overall, nothing extraordinary, but very safe choice for spending couple of days im Huay Xai. Plus, it's very close to Gibbon Experience office (part of the reasons we chose it). In general, I would recommend.

The room was adequate as was the bathroom. It's on the main street close to restaurants which is handy as no breakfast is served. Saw the people who run the GH once when I checked in (the only place who wanted to see voucher which was a nuisance as it was on my laptop so I had to connect to wifi first trying to explain this was fun).

I stayed at Khopchai Guesthouse twice for one night, either side of doing the Gibbon Experience. It was convenient, cheap (100,000 kip, ie $12.50 for a room with fan) and pretty clean. On the downside, the water in the bathroom was tepid at best, the TV has no English language channels, and the wifi was temperamental and slow.

We were very happy with the room. Clean quiet, good air conditioning and reasonable price for a stay before and after the Gibbons experience. Pretty basic but almost wish we were spending another night.

Only saw the" owner"once when we checked in.Gave us the first room at front of hotel.All upstairs with view of river were empty and nicer.Opposite large school so very noisy early morning.Clean enough but doesn't feel comfortable at all.

The guesthouse set on the riverbank of the Mekong,”
Saw the staff member at the desk on signing in,then no one after that..Nice balconies,busted old chairs to sit on,no tables,rooms ok,nothing special,booked for two nights,stayed one night,then took off the next day,unless acute boredom,set in..the town ok,last saw Ban Huaysai,in 1972,.it was better then...A new custom bridge,outside town,across the Mekong from Chiang Khong on the Thai side,so no more boats to bring you over from Thailand..Wonderful..

Unfriendly, ant riddled, dirty sheet guesthouse ”
Not good. Carpenter ants in 2 of the 3 rooms we were in. One room had them all over the bed, the other room had them shooting out of the AC unit. The sheets were badly stained. The staff (the father and daughter i think) do not speak one word of English but make no attempt to provide any level of service and are downright unfriendly.

We stayed two nights before & after the Gibbons Experience. I don't understand why people rate it quite low, for us it was perfect! You get a clean room with river view (rooms 303 & 304), towels, soap, 2 water bottles for 100'000 Kip (walk in price). We even could store our luggage for the night we weren't there. The guesthouse is a short walk (2min) outside of the main centre with all the shops & restaurants, so a bit more quiet. And there is a terrace on the upper floor with river view! We def recommend this guesthouse!
