Best place to stay in Phonsavan! ”
Kong Keo guesthouse is the place to be in Phonsavan! Owner Kong is the best host and tour guide you can imagine. He really made us feel welcome and at home in his place. The room was spacious with a comfy bed and extra blankets were provided due to the cold weather at night to keep us warm. The shower is actually steaming hot which was awesome but be careful to not burn yourself. Everything was clean and well taken care off. The common area at the front is a really nice place to hang out by a camp fire that they have every night and meet other travellers that are staying here. The best thing though is that Kong also organises tours to the Plain of Jars (and other things in the area). He is such a great tour guide, explaining everything in great detail and even giving us theories about the jars from various people (scientists and local myths for example) and then his take on it all. Really interesting and informative. He's also not shy for jokes so you'll be in for a really good and fun day on his tour. Highly recommend this place, you really can't go wrong!
A gem in Phonsavan”
We love Kong and his sweet family! Stayed here for 2 nights. The rooms are simple, but very clean, and the water for showers is hot. Kong took us on a half day tour to Jar Site 1 & 2, but the tour also included a very educational portion on the CIA, the US government and the Secret War. All things I never learned in school as an American. Kong is a deep well of knowledge, and seems to stay up to date with archaeological findings about the jars or new facts about the Secret War, which he shares with everyone on his tours. It’s truly a privilege to spend even just half a day with him! At the end of each night, Kong or his wife lights a fire in the communal hangout area and all the guests sit around, drink and share stories. It’s a lovely place to come back to each day. Kong also arranged bus tickets and a tuk tuk ride to the bus station for us on the day of our departure, and his wife did our laundry (for a fee) on the day we were out on the tour. Kong and his family took really good care of us. On top of all that, on the day we left Phonsavan to go to Vang Vieng via minivan, we forgot one of our bags in the van. And Kong helped us contact the bus driver, so that we can get our bag back. If that’s not 5 star service, I don’t know what is. We highly recommend staying here and/or taking a tour with Kong!! You won’t regret it. :)

Great place to stay and Mr. Kong's plain of jars tour is fantastic. The bed was very comfortable with extra blankets and a hot shower. The bathroom had a weird layout, making it a little hard to shower. The toilet was also lower than usual. The guesthouse was pretty close to the main road with restaurants and stores. Mr. Kong and his family were wonderful. The tour was especially good, very detailed and informative. Highly recommended!

I stayed at the Kongkeo guest house during my trip to Phonsavon, and had a fantastic time. The guesthouse is very clean, with wonderful cabins. There is no kitchen, but you are a two-minute walk from several cafes and restaurants. Best of all was the tour to the Plain of Jars and the local museum. This is where Kong really shines, as his knowledge of the Secret War is second to none, and his expertise of the Plain of Jars makes the trip worth every minute!
