Well I suppose you get what you pay for. This place is cheap. Any cleaning appeared to stop at head height - light fittings in cobwebs. Food disappointing and over-hyped. Pool closed without warning. The establishment seemed to be run for the benefit of the family & their friends.

Why would you want to stay in this village? There is nothing to do. Stay at don det. Why would you want to stay at this hotel? Aircon not working, no wifi reach, TV did not start, pool not clean. And we were the only guests!!

Shame about this place. Obviously it was once lovey. Our room was a good size but very old and dirty. I had to ask for the bedding to be changed on arrival as I don't think it had been done since the last guest. Dirty with stains on. Breakfast is nothing special. When the lady owner was away the breakfast leftovers were not cleared away until midday. At the same time I had to interrupt the girls doing their hair to ask for my room to be cleaned and supply soap, water and toilet paper. They uncovered the pool when we arrived but I needed to clean it out first. There was so much bleach in the water it took 2 showers to get rid of the smell on your skin. I think I lost my tan!

Good pool”

The hotel is comfortable and sits on the edge of the Mekong - as the name suggests. The rooms are clean and at air con is good. The pool is excellent. Staff are friendly, especially mine hostess. The island is quiet.

Stunning location on the Mekong River”

Bright cheery cozy rooms with comfortable beds. Viewed spectacular sunrises from the balcony overlooking the Mekong River. The very hospitable Canadian-Laotian owner goes out of her way to make her guests feel at home. The restaurant overlooking the river serves tasty Laotian and Western meals. The pool is an added bonus after a day spent exploring.

Good location for Muang Khong. Hotel is okay. The staffs are very helpful. Breakfast are okay.

Would never stay here again.”

Our experience was awful. We booked 4 nights here because of the pool. We arrived to the hotel on a hot day after a long bus ride to find the pool drained. I was disappointed, but the owner said it would be filled overnight. She lied. The pool didn't get filled until our third day, and they put so much bleach in the water that it burned your eyes and skin to swim in. Not to mention they filled it with river water which made it so murky you couldn't see your hands. The owner made us feel incredibly uncomfortable our entire stay. They recommend a man by Mr. Phou which rips everyone off for bus rides and boat rides. Down the street you can get everything for much cheaper. Do not trust him. The coffee is terrible and breakfast average. I wouldn't stay here again. I tried to get a refund, but to no avail. It wasn't worth our money. When I complained about the pool the owner sarcastically replied "swim in the Mekong, then." No, we paid for a pool.

Great place”

Mekong inn has everything you need. Clean room, good bathroom with hot water, AC and wifi. Breakfast is really good. The owner, One, is very friendly and the staff every kind. Pool was a nice break from the heat. Had dinner twice at restaurant and enjoyed both meals. Would recommend staying here.

Good stay”

Pool was really nice, you need it if it is hot. They put a net at night to keep it clean. The room was clean, beds where nice.

OK”

Not the friendliest start, with the staff not having our reservation and abrupt with us as a consequence. I thought we had booked a room with AC but there was clearly no room for discussion as the remote control for the AC was swiftly confiscated. So a bit of a downer to start off. Room fine and decent enough breakfast in the morning with a great view overlooking the Mekong. So expectations didn’t meet reality 😞

Peaceful hotel with friendly & helpful host”

We stayed for two nights in this lovely hotel. The owner has very good english and is very happy to help. It was great value for money and the pool was an added bonus. This is a very quiet and peaceful island which suited us but if you are looking for any hustle and bustle or bars etc then it isn't the island for you. Also if you are getting the bus from Pakse then I would recommend specifying that you are staying in Muang Khong. We didn't make this clear enough and ended up being taken to the ferry port for Don Dhet and Don Khone, we then had to pay $15 extra for the minibus to take us back up to where we needed to be. I would recommend taking the boat tour round the 4000 islands which is organised by the hotel. It was a lovely journey and you get to spend time on Don Khone where you can hire bikes and explore the island. including the waterfall which is spectacular. Would definitely like to go back to Don Khong and spend longer there next time.

Good place, friendly owners.”

The owners, One and Bo were very friendly and chatty, and both spoke good English, which is great for Laos. The rooms are plain and clean enough, and the dining area is right by the Mekong, which is awesome: so tranquil and breezy. They have a swimming pool too, which is rare for budget places.

No good value for money”

Generally it seems not to be very easy to find a good accommodation for an adequate price in the area of the 4000 islands. Our room and the bathroom were clean. However, the sheets and towels could have been cleaner. The front of the house is quite nice but beside and at the back it is kind of messy and this is the view one has from some of the cheaper rooms. Additionally, those are depressingly dark. This is why we chose to move to the first floor and consequently to pay more (10$/night for an AC). Breakfast was okay. The Canadian owner was not present. Instead a Lao lady who hardly could speak a word English. This as such is not such a big issue but we would have wished that she would have made us feel a bit welcome by smiling from time to time. The view on the Mekong is beautiful. The pool area is nice. However, we could not use the pool since it was covered the whole time of our two day stay. In a nutshell: the value for money is disappointing and we missed some kind of hospitality.

A pool to cool off”

Pool is this hotel's best feature. The rest of the facilities reflect the budget price. Hotel advertised price for boat trips was misleading. Always double check if booking anything.

Don't trust Mr. Pounnmy”

Peaceful nature view. Nice food. But there is a guy who arrange boat and van, his name is Mr. Pounmy (pronunciation) , he charged me a lot with a bad service. For example, he charged me a fishing rod but without sinker! He charged me and mum for a van price but supply a bus. (The bus fee is three times than a van)The boss has a connection with him, but i really really suggest don't choose Mr. Pounmy service!!!

Mekong Inn is excellent ! The tennants are most friendly and welcoming and Madame is a great cook ! We loved the "vieille France" style of the house. Very clean and pleasant room with a magnificent view on the river. This is a place to return to; it was our best hotel on our Mekong travels. Hope to come back here ! Cécile and Simone

Highly recommended to enhoance your stay on a tranquil island”

The swimming pool clinched our decision to stay here. The island is so tranquil that it was wonderful to cool down in the pool after exploring, or just to relax by with views of the Mekong beyond. All the staff are delighful. Service and food very good. Rooms cleaned every day, towels changed, etc. No fridge in our fan room and it could get hot in there. Maybe an air con (upstairs room) if your budget allows.

Haven with a pool”

Really enjoyed relaxing there as it was so quiet and took away the struggle of crossing over the border from Cambodia which had been stressful.
