Great place to chill out and enjoy nature”
Wou, what a peacefull place at the Khao Sok Nationalpark. Clean, simple and cheep . If somebody get stressed from the city life and all this big tourist spots like Phuket or Kho Samui, thats the place you have to go! I'll never go back to Thailand without visiting the Smiley Bungalows again. A pearl in the nature. The staff has also some bungalows on the lake of the nationalpark. You can book one of those swimming bungalows, if you stay at smileys. The owner of this place is very friendly, tries to have a conversation with all theyr guests. To enjoy your stay at smileys is much more importent for the owner as the money. You can get some really good and original thai food for 70-80 bath a meal. Around the place you'll find some cosy reggae and chillout bars and a few minimarkets. You can walk on your own intoz the jungle or get one tour that you can book at smileys reception. In the jungle are many places to swimm in the refreshing jungle river. Best place in Thailand. Actually i wont write this resume, cause it should be one of my secret places :-) Have fun!

Amazing Views, Awesome Staff, Extremely Peaceful”
Smiley is damn near my favorite hotel on our trip around Thailand. We stayed in the stone bungalows which were excellent! I loved swinging peacefully in the hammock while looking at the mist snake its way around the limestone cliffs. No air condition but it was not needed. Staff was excellent and there is an adorable scruffle dog on site to play with. I would give this hotel 3.5 stars realistically but it is a 4.8 stars in my personal opinion. Love this place and will be booking again when we go back. Oh and eat at Nong Sue's at the bottom of the road on the left. Best in Khao Sok!

Excellent”
Fantastic time at Smiley Bungalow. The bungalows are incredible, especially for the price. I highly recommend staying here when going to Khao Sok National Park

Worth the travel there!”
Our first stop was Smiley Bungalow, there were no wooden bungalows so we were put in a stone one at no extra cost! At first we found the staff quiet and not forthcoming but this got better throughout the trip and by the end we were highly impressed so I think we caught them at a bad time. The room was nice, basic and clean but with a view to die for and the showers were hot which is something we were not expecting and extremely pleased about! We are at the restaurant and it was cheap and delicious. We booked a tour to the National Park and negotiated a discount for the park entrance fee so paid 2,500 for a one night stay with a couple of trips included - due to our time restraints it was what we needed if a little expensive (all tours in the town are the same price unless you tailor make one). When we were taken to the floating raft (also smiley) our tour changed somewhat compared to the itinerary but Kit (the owner of the rafts) was absolutely amazing and made the trip a wonderful experience - we saw monkeys and climbed through a cave!

nature lovers dream”
I have sciatica, which started the day I got their but still managed to walk to the third waterfall and have a swim in the national park!. Which was only a short walk away from Smiley Bungalows. Also at the rangers station I saw two types of primate, flying Lizards and more!! Cannot praise Smiley Bungalows enough for their help and friendliness, Bonus being close proximity to the National park,

You're in the jungle, so expect jungle things”
Just kidding about the spiders...sort of. We stayed here 3 nights during January 2013 and had a very enjoyable time exploring the national park. It's very remote, so things tend to cost a little more than what you would pay in less isolated areas. We stayed in a stone bungalow, basically a single stone room about 220 square feet, set 15 feet above the ground on stilts. There is a single screened window so bugs were kept to a minimum, but the large glass windows on the front of the room didn't open. So the room was quite warm all day. The temperature dropped substantially at night and we both got a little cold. Bring a sheet as they don't provide much in the way of bedding, just a pillow and a blanket. Also, being in the jungle means things like large spiders in the room are not uncommon. We encountered a very large jumping spider that was very agitated by our presence. When I asked the staff about it I was given a can of bug spray and a hearty "Good luck, be careful." I guess I'm not too squeamish about offing spiders, but I think it would have been good of them to take care of the problem for paying customers. They were able to arrange a day trip to the lake for us which was well worth the money. They also gave us a ride to/from the bus stop which saved us a mile of walking with our packs. The breakfast in the restaurant was good. The lunch was okay, but we preferred to eat elsewhere. There are several restaurants in town, so you'll have many choices when it comes to eating. Also, be sure to take plenty of cash for your time in Khao Sok. There is an ATM on the main road, but it didn't have any money in it when we were there. The next closest ATM is 20+ miles away. Luckily the tour bus driver was nice enough to stop and let me (and several other people) withdraw some money.

Exceptional”
We went to Smiley during low season, so they upgraded our bungalow for free. It's very close to the park entrance and all the restaurants. We booked a tour with them but unfortunately had a motorbike accident and injured our legs. We decided we could not go on the tour and asked if we could cancel an hour before the tour was due to leave. She refunded us fully with no hesitation. Great stay, fantastic staff.

Good, basic bungalows.”
Khao Sok is a pretty spot and you get a really nice view from the bungalows. The bungalows are very basic. Bed, bathroom with toilet, basin and shower. No aircon but it cools down at night so you don't need it anyway. I'm not sure if the restaurant is actually functioning. I didn't once see anyone eating there. There are a few options up the road for eating but the standard isn't great. Not a good spot for solo travellers. All the tours are minimum 2 pax so you would have to pay double to go on one unless it's high season and you can convince another traveller to do it as well. I was under the weather while I was there anyway so I didn't really do much. Note: there are no pharmacies or doctors in town. Bring a first aid kit with you.

You Get What You Pay For”
Well, first off my stay at Smiley Bungalows could of been better. I booked this place because it offered a free waterfall, temple, and viewpoint tour, as long as you stayed at one of their accommodations. The fist day my friend and I arrived, we wanted to go on that tour (we were tired after a full night of traveling, so we wanted to do something relaxing). However, when we asked about it, we were told that since it would be just the two of us, they couldn't do the tour. They did say that the temple is in walking distance (they did forget that it costs 20 baht during the day to enter), but we would have to take a taxi to the viewpoint. Also, my friend and I wanted to schedule some of their other tours. We asked how long the elephant tour lasted and they said about an hour. On their website, they list the duration of the tour as 2 and a half hours. The price of both tours would be the same. My friend asked if they would lower the price; they said no. They were not offering the full 2 and a half hours because it was New Year's and a lot of people would be coming to ride the elephants and there were only around 6-8 elephants at the place. My friend was not happy about it. She sat there contemplating whether or not she would do it. At that time another member of the staff came over. She overheard my friend asking again why the tour was only an hour, when on their website they list it as 2 and a half hours. The second staff member proceeded to explain, in what I felt was a rude tone, that "my friend did not understand. Because it is New Year, the tour is one hour because there are few elephants and a lot of people". My friend said that it was too expensive for just one hour. The second staff member said under her breathe, in Thai, " It is not expensive." My friend did not understand what she said, but I did. So, when The fist staff member repeated that there only a few elephants, I responded back, in Thai, that I understood. We ended up booking the tour anyways

Jungle vibe amazing”
Loved this place. Really chilled out in beautiful surroundings. The stone bungalow was great and super clean. Very comfortable. The wifi worked well only in reception but hammocks benches and swings to relax on. The food wasnt great but lots of options nearby. The overnight tour to the lakehouse was a must do. It was amazing. Night and morning safari, great food, nice place to swim and kayak and the caves were my favourite. Smiley took you to the caves early so noone about. Loved this place could have easily stayed longer.

Great place to stay in Surat Thank! Amazing lake tour!”
The bungalows were all very well kept and very cute. Set in the trees, you could relax in your hammock and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains and property. The staff was so helpful and went out of their way to help us and even gave us fresh mangosteen. Our favorite part by far was the 2 day 1 night lake tour we did with them! Highly recommend booking with them as the value cannot be beat. The floating bungalows in the lake tour were well kept and had a gorgeous view. All the food was provided and delicious and we absolutely loved our guide who showed us wild animals and took us on a jungle hike to a beautiful waterfall. The tour was our favorite part and I recommend it to anyone visiting Thailand!

Comfortable stay in the Jungle”
Really pleased with our stay, staff were nothing but helpful, organizing various trips and things to do, great high speed internet, and thai/english food available at the bar. Rooms are a simple bungalow with toilet, or a brick raised bungalow which seems a little more modern, we went for the cheaper option and weren't disappointing. Must underline how helpful and attentive the staff were, who made this the most a comfortable stay.

Owners of Smiley is amazing, honest & kind”
Smiley had the most comfortable beds of all the hostels I had stayed in. Not the typical Thai wood board with a thin mattress. The rooms were clean and large with a fan. I liked how the little huts extended down way from the hostel creating a little network of floating huts. I was there on New Years Eve and the family invited all the guests to participate in dinner and drinks to celebrate with each other. Wonderful homemade meal to share in the festivities. Loved the experience and the hostel.

Great location! Beautiful setting!”
My boyfriend and I loved our stay at Smileys. The owners were very friendly and we really enjoyed our stay. We did the overnight lake tour and loved it. It was so neat to stay on the floating rafts and do the jungle trek. The tour guide was very nice and explained everything as we went through the jungle and the cave! I definitely would recommend this stay!

Backpacker heaven”
The wooden bungalows provide very basic accommodation near the entrance to the Khao Sok National Park. The 10 km trek to waterfalls is actually hardly worth the effort, but Smiley can arrange day tours to other sights in the area. The restaurant is squarely aimed at foreigners, so the food is not good compared to real local restaurants.

Nice, basic bungalows”
The view was very nice from the stone bungalows. They are mainly used by travellers going to or coming from the lake bungalows. I did the day trip, which was excellent. Nice, simple breakfast available for a low cost. It's just 2 women doing all the cleaning, cooking, booking, and communicating with guests so they're busy but quite friendly when they have a moment.

Simple yet sufficient”
the stone room bungalow has basic amenities like hot shower, an electric fan, and a hammock on the veranda. there is no tv in the room and no aircon, but this i find acceptable given the price and given that the reason for going to khao sok is to experience nature, not to go for a spa treatment.

Excellent budget accommodation”
We stayed in one of their Wooden Bungalows for 3 nights. At 300 baht they were fantastic value and extremely clean - built on stilts the bungalows have nice views over the Stone Bungalows and enjoy great breezes. The room comes with a deck and hammock (although a little holey), a massive queen/king bed, mozzie net and ensuite (which depending on your room had hot water - we were given a different bungalow after our lake trip and enjoyed hot water for 2 nights). We did Smiley's 2 day, 1 night on the lake which was fantastic. The raft houses were basic, but clean and had their own ensuite. The setting is beautiful and we can't recommend enough. Smiley's is great value budget accommodation - it was exactly what we wanted and as our cheapest on our trip, we were very surprised and happy.

OK stay”
I stayed in the cheaper wooden bungalow and found them to be worse for wear. Especially the toilets which were not clean. The staff were not overly friendly apart from the owner who was very nice. I booked the overnight lake trip which was very expensive, the staff on the lake house were quite rude and I wasn't happy with my stay there although I am not sure how connected to smiley bungalows these staff are
