Amazing place”
Lovely staff, grand rooms, huge free breakfast, easily the most comfortable bed I've had in years. If this hotel wasn't in the middle of nowhere it'd be fully booked every night.

Nice place”
Very helpful personnel, nice five-star territory. Recommend to travellers who can hire taxi/minibus or travelling with own car.

looked like it was out of business”
it looked like they were going out of business. Hugh facility, very fancy and nice rooms but only two rooms rented the night I stayed there. It is far from a town and has no restaurant and none nearby. One of the 3 staff that I saw drove me into town and later came to pick me up, he was very nice. All in all a very strange experience.

Away from everything”
We were 2 couples needing a place to stay in preparation for a slow-boat cruise to Luang Probang. Upon arrival there was no one there. Literally - no one. It also seemed that no other travelers were staying at the hotel other than a lone French motorcyclist who gave us some comfort that someone would arrive to check us in. Eventually (30+ minutes later) we checked in and settled into our rooms - which were clean and hospitable but little to no WiFi. We needed to go to an ATM to get some cash but there was no availability for transport. We had pre-purchased breakfast and it was available the next morning. The staff was trying and nice but difficult for us to communicate with. Fortunately, our slow-boat tour operator offered transport to the boat otherwise I am not certain we would have been able to get a tuktuk or taxi to take us. If you are in the same situation, I would suggest staying somewhere closer to town and the boat docks

Great hotel next to the huay xai border”
The hotel is located slightly up the hill as soon as you reach the laos border. As others have mentioned the hotel was pretty much empty. The hotel is painted completely in gold but everything was of high quality and the bedrooms are huge. The beds wore by far the comfiest I've stayed in se Asia. I get the impression that the hotel was intended to be a luxury accommodation as there is a big casino just across the road but for some reason (probably as it's a quiet border town) it has never taken off. The hotel is about 10 mins drive away from the town centre but the hotel provided a free shuttle bus service there and back. After seeing other hotels and backpackers in Huay Xai, this place was by far the best (albeit a bit strange due to the lack of guests) we paid roughly £20 a night. In London the same room would be £150+

On Golden Pond”
A highlight of our trip. Although the hotel is somewhat off on its own, the hotel kindly provided gratis their van for us to dine in the nearby town. Although some might call the decor garish, we saw it as a " unique treasure". Considering the modest level of competition in the area's hotels, it was a great choice.

Just for the fun of it”
Stay one night in this hotel. Hic-up at check in. They did not receive information about my booking. Booking trough agoda, but agoda uses bookings.com or something like that. Payment also had to be made to the hotel. Lucky I was able to retrieve the receipt to secure the rate for the rooms. Room was large and clean. But there seem to be thin slits of light creeping through what I believe to be cracks in the door. Anyway, stay was comfortable. Breakfast selection from a choice of 6 sets. From porridge to ABF. It is away from town, so think twice if you do not have your own transport.

A must see and stay.”
Very big and grand rooms. A little worn around the edges. We stayed one night. The hotel provided a ride to a good nearby restaurant. The manager who checked us in was very helpful.

Above average”
This is a tricky hotel to review. It is perfectly located just across the border in Laos. The rooms were big and they were clean on this very large hotel. The staff tried very hard to be as helpful as possible. The drawbacks - the closest restaurant was about 6 km away as there was no food service for lunch or dinner. There was Wi-Fi but it was very unstable and there was no hot water for a shower that night - there was the next morning. The hotel has potential but needs some tweaking.

There was no swimming pool, but the staff couldn’t be nicer and the hotel shuttle took us everywhere.

"golden hotel" at a very distant location”
very peculiar, large hotel, all in golden colour. i think we were the only guests in he hotel. spacious, clean rooms, facilities all okay. unfortunately the hotel is about 10 km away from the center of huang xay, in total isolation, no restaurants, coffes or shops around. to compensate for, manager provided transportation to the center, the return by taxi at night time was however not easy to arrange. breakfast rather basic. good support by the korean manager (fluent in english, unlike e staadf of the gotel) of the duty free shop that is currentsl built up in the hotel.

Nearly vacant "palace"”
Interesting place, but no-one else seemed to be staying there. Breakfast was mediocre. Location was very far from the town, but close to the border. Rooms were very large and were clean, but it was overall just a strange place.

No restaurant, no casino, spotty WiFi, completely Outdated resembling a funeral Parlor with many dusty plastic plants and flowers. The pictures are NOT accurate descriptions. I didn’t stay the night, ended up leaving to stay at another hotel.

Good: Nice big room, clean, hot water Not so good: no restaurant (they drove us to a local place to eat), no 24 desk (staff left and we were given a WeChat number if there was a problem in the middle of the night), No WiFi at all, no shops, no casino, no massage (they would drive somebody in from town) , Basically none of the things promised actually existed, except the breakfast. The place is falling apart and for the money you could find an acceptable guest house and still have money left over for 3 meals or more. The cherry on the sundae was when we were accused of not paying despite an Agoda receipt. (Couldn't recheck my bank account due to the lack of Internet ANYWHERE in the hotel.) The place could be great but it's crumbling.

Ghost Town”
When we first rolled up to the place it was breathtaking. A beautiful hilltop view overlooking the river with a landscaped courtyard and fountain and a huge glass-walled gift shop. The rooms were large and ornate (gaudy really). Really cool. The problem was we were the only guests there! The kitchen didn't have staff and was not offering food. The front desk bell boy was polite but could not communicate in English and didn't know how to operate the credit card machine when I paid for the room. What saved us was this Korean gentleman who spoke English and claimed to live there (I suspect he was part owner of the place by the way he treated us). Interesting stay but we spent our next night in town close to all the shops and restaraunts.
