Magnificent view of the Mekong River!”
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. We stayed upstairs and every morning, we could see the sunrise from our balcony across the Mekong river and every evening we could see the sunset through the "Linga Parvata" mountains from the back balcony. There were 2 showers and one of them was an outdoor one, which we did not get to use it. There were insects coming into the room and even though we had kept our room door closed at all times. The Reception always sent someone to open the room and do some checking and cleaning up in the evenings as well as their morning routine housekeeping activities. We visited the Vat Phou temple. The hotel organized a Tuk and was very reliable. The Restaurant had variety of food and the cost was reasonable. We also used the boat services to go around the Mekong river. Mr. Luong was very informative and shared stories about that area and was very interesting. Wej, Kamsing were very friendly. Would love to visit again.

Excellent place to stay”
They were extremely accommodating and allowed us to check in early at like 10am. The service was exceptional as well. Would definitely send a friend and family there. Overall, I had a great experience with The River Resort; staff was incredibly helpful, and the amenities were great. The room was wonderful, clean, and perfect to resting and relaxing in the weekend.

Memorial stay wrecked our travel plan”
Champasack being a tiny town, we were surprised to have read string of good reviews about The River Resort. Though we intended to visit the town as a day trip, we thought we would test the resort out one night. Following the resort sign off the main road into a small dirt road, our spirit sank. 'This place must be overrated!' Our thought was quickly dispelled on seeing the arch bamboo trees gateway leading us into a world of natural beauty enhanced by human touch. Photos we've seen did not do this River Resort Champasack justice. You will find beautiful view 360 degree around you - anywhere you stand. Photographers would have hard time deciding where NOT to shoot. One night wouldn't do. We rescheduled our trip and stayed another night ... and yet another. Our travel plan was wrecked but we wished we could stay a few more nights. Its own rice field in the middle of the resort gave a special touch. Don't miss the sound of nature at sunset. Walking around, you would hear distinctive different ensembles of insects and small animals in different locations. It appeared there was a change of shift of crying insects about this time as well. For about an hour, we could hear loud trumpet-like continuous sounds made by(most likely) a type of insects. We could not see them but could make out that the sound was made by a single insect on trees. Each lasted about 30 seconds to a minute at a time and was distinctively different to the sounds made by hundreds of other animals. We guessed there were at least a dozen of them scattered around taking turns to blow their trumpets prompting us to turn around in search for them. We wondered what they look like. The design and fitting out of the building were very nice indeed. We looked hard to find faults and found one, a downlight in our outdoor shower was not working . The staffs were super attentive and courteous. We felt privileged to have stayed there. Thank you for a memorial time. We will ret

Super impressed.”
We were on our way on our motorcycle to the 4000 islands. Drove past a advertising board of The River Resort in Champasak and we thought we check it out. We booked the two day package as a consequence we didn't get to the Islands. From the lovely check in staff to the lady picking up the leaves, everyone treated us like royalty. The rooms are first class so is the gardens and the two stunning infinitely pools. We went on their sunset river cruise which included wine and canapés. Our hostess was very charming and watching the sun set over the mountain range was sensational. Breakfast was adequate though a lityle more Thai/Lao food would have made my wifes day. As we live in Thailand we are only 110 kms from The River Resort so we will be back before long for sure. Spoil yourself and stay there!!

Unforgettable Experience”
This was my second time bringing a couple of old friends from the Netherlands to the River Resort. It was a wonderful luxury ending of their holiday in Laos. The resort is not cheap, but the wonderful setting in the paddy fields, the amazing views over the Mekong, the luxury rooms, the very friendly staff and the nice meals make it an unforgettable experience. Plus there are all these amazing destinations around the resort: the Wat Phou temple, the Boloven Plateau, and the rainforest zip-line experience..The quiet nearby town of Champasak can be explored by bicycle of tuk-tuk. Very highly recommended!

Beautiful locale but obtrusive staff.”
The bucolic setting, amidst organic rice paddies on the banks of the Mekong was a welcome break from the fast paced life of Phnom Penh. The Laotian staff were kind and attentive and the chef, though a little grumpy at times, matched some of the finest cuisine we had sampled in Vientiane. The room was impeccably clean and the facilities were practical and well thought out. As far as this we completely agreed with the pricing of the rooms, but some of the supplementary charges at the check-out bill left us perplexed. Laundry is extortionately expensive (we understand its an eco-hotel but a minimum of $1.50 for panties, is simply laughable) and we feel the place did not live up to all the services it advertised. We went during the wet season, so this explains why some features such as 'turtle island cocktails' were unavailable, as the island was immersed under the Mekong. However, despite staff's protestation wet-season does not account for our biggest complaints: the kayaking service advertised was not available to us (the staff pathetically informed us that an oar was missing and could not accommodate our two-people party and a guide), the massage service advertised actually requires you to rent a tuk-tuk and set off for the nearest town (no complaints, but clearly a case of false advertising). Instead of kayaking, the staff booked us onto the hotel's "pleasure boat" - a floating dock which advanced down the river slower than driftwood - and consequently charged us 16 dollars for less than ten minutes. Be prepared to pay at least 25 dollars to get to the nearest city - and then again, you will not be free of your movements as the tuk-tuk has clear instructions to bring you back to the hotel at the soonest possible time. As experienced hikers (Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Peru, Nepal..) we were expecting the River Resort to boast similar features to the other eco-hotels we had been to. Instead they seem bent on keeping us inactive- aimed at more elderly clientele.

Lovely retreat”
We are two adults traveling with our older parents, and found the River Resort to be just perfect for us. The rooms are very thoughtfully designed, with the outdoor shower a lovely surprise. The grounds are spacious, well-maintained, and so peaceful. Two swimming pools are small but perfect for an afternoon dip. Staff were very hospitable and helpful. We all had very nice massages in a simple but comfortable facility. The location is far from town so transportation is needed. The restaurant is rather overpriced, particularly for local food - it was shocking to see pad thai for the same price as a Western pasta. This last point pushed us to leave the resort for meals elsewhere more often than we might have liked.

High End Boutique resort”
This is a very nice boutique resort, much higher than the level of design and attention to detail that one would usually find in southern Laos. The rooms are simple but very nicely designed, especially the riverfront rooms which have great views. The restaurant serves good food and the prices were surprisingly not that high. It makes a perfect base for visiting Champasak and Wat Phou. Highly recommended.

Lovely retreat!”
We extended our stay at the Riverresort as we loved it so much. After traveling through Laos for a month this was a welcome retreat with an amazing setting by the Mekong and an infinity pool to admire e views. The villas are clean, beautiful and feature an outdoor shower and nice verandas. The food is fantastic and easily the best I had in Laos, if a bit pricey. There isn't really any other option for dining nearby (to my knowledge), so you're bound to the resort - this was fine by us as we loved relaxing there. Location is truly off the beaten track- best to contact them for a pick up from Pakse if you're coming from the North. We had some issues finding it as onward transport from Pakse is difficult. Most drivers didn't want to take the new toll road that goes directly to the resort, or they didn't know about it. This is much quicker than established route on the other side of the river. Also note that when were were there the phone number provided with Agoda's booking was incorrect, we notified the resort. The place only opened end of 2011 so everything is still very new, but operations are still expanding. Overall we loved staying there- fabulous food, great villas, friendly staff and amazing sunset views over the Mekong. Definitely recommended!

Relaxing, peaceful stay by Mekong River”
This is an ideal place to stay if visiting Pakse. There is not a lot to do in an around Pakse but the River Resort is a great place to recharge the batteries. The Mekong view and rice paddies within the resort are wonderful. Catering staff have been well trained and provide a wide range of tasty food at reasonable prices. Each room has an indoor and outdoor shower which is a nice and quirky facility. Would be a top place for a romantic getaway for a few days.

Exceptional”
Very nice and quiet place outside of the Champasak center. The resort gave us a wonderfull room with view over the Mekong, it was a big and clean one. Champasak is 2.5 km away and the Wat Phou is 12 km away of he resort. With 35-40min car drive you can reach Pakse also.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at”
The River Resort was a complete surprise I never expected it to be so magnificent. The staff are superb smily, extremely helpful. The view is speactacular, the surroundings of the room are so peaceful. I have lived in Asia for 4 years and travelled non stop and River Resort was surely the best hotel stay I have experienced. I only have one regret I only booked one night!!

Delightful few days”
The River Resort really is like an oasis of calm and a great place to unwind. As noted the staff are attentive and helpful, the river view is fantastic and we left feeling properly relaxed. The only small criticism I would have is that, whilst the Resort is helpful in offering transport to get you there, it was more difficult finding something convenient when leaving (and it is 30km or so to Pakse). It would be really appreciated if they could establish a link with a local company to offer more options for getting back to the city.

Perfect in everyday ”
We stayed for 3nights and did not want to leave. The hotel is only small but is perfect for getting away from everything and everybody. Situated on the Mekong the views are fantastic and the hotel has a boat which you can enjoy a trip on the river. The staff are always smiling and committed to ensuring you have an enjoyable stay. The hotel has been open only a few months the gardens are still to mature but the gardeners are working hard on them and I am sure they will once established be very beautiful. Champansak is an authentic small village but utterly charming there are a few sights around but the main one that we can recommend is the Champansak spa. It's worth invensting in the river front room but the pond view rooms also face the river just set back a little further.

Luxury hotel in a far away location”
This is a modern hotel that meets international standards. It has two infinity pools (one shady, one sunny) with views of the Mekong. It is near Champasak town and loans bikes for free to visit the town. The "River View" bungalows have the best view but the others are also serviceable.

Rose in a pot of dirt”
A great night stay in Champasak. This place was an absolutely relaxing stay. Green around every corner and a pool that was as refreshing as it was beautifully contrasted to the Mekong river. Take nothing away from the restaurant. Delicious food and staff that have no problem communicating. It's quite a bike ride to the temple, at least 15km but well worth it. The children of Laos often greet you with a inquisitive grin. Do yourself a favour and spend a little extra to stay here for your time in Champasak

Fabulous hotel right on the Mekong”
This is a very well thought-out and very well run hotel right on the banks of the Mekong. The individual villas, which are nicely spaced, have separate accommodation at ground and first floor level. The rooms are simply yet elegantly furnished and equipped with large terrace/balcony (with overhead fan provided if there is no breeze off the river). There is an indoor shower and a partly outdoor shower - a nice touch. I had dinner at the restaurant once night - very good service, good food, and although the prices are high by Lao standards, they are still very low by western standards. All the staff I encountered were extremely friendly and professional. This is a special place!
