Very helpful staff but is now so aged and dirty that doesn't even meet basic backpacker standards”

Simply run down, very unclean/unhygienic rooms. Mosquitos and cockroaches in rooms a problem. Flip flops are a must for the bathroom and walls paper thin - to the point where the light from the adjoining bathroom will light up your bathroom in middle of night! Staff are super friendly and speak good English but I think this backpacker favourite has had its day - you can get much better in Laos/Champasak nowadays for similar price. A plus is the elevated riverfront restaurant alfresco, but it doesn't invite you to eat there. And the Inthara restaurant across the road is sublime, even if no river view (which is just blackness at night anyway).

I wouldn't recommend here.”

On arrival, the guest house was full booked although I had booked and paid for two nights. The owner just laughed and said he was full! Eventually he said I could stay at his sisters place on arrival it was very run down, with a hole in the bathroom ceiling and bedroom was damp and dirty. I have roughed it many at time but didn't want to stay here, especially when I had paid to stay elsewhere. When I explain, he tutted and argued with me and suggested I cycle with my backpack on to find another place. I asked if he could take me to another guest house I'd read about, he kept saying I was full and expensive. In the end he took me to this guest house. Which was dearer but I was happy to stay here for the two nights. I only got money back for one night, he refused to give me the second nights money. Due to his manner and attitude I decided to cut my losses and enjoyed my stay in the other guesthouse. I know mistakes happen but it was his attitude and manner in how he dealt with that angered and upset me. Therefore I would not recommend this place. I also can't comment on food and rooms etc as I didn't use any facilities.

Overrated”

The staff seems friendly, There are motorbikes and bikes to rent

We booked our stay through Agoda (we booked a room for 7$). The room we were proposed was in our opinion terrible - smelly, with mold, old bed sheets, stuffy and super hot. Fan does not work properly (slow). This room costs 50000 kip. They proposed us a room for 80000 which supposed to be better, but still super hot, quite dirty, bathroom the same, with rats running all night on the roof of the room. We think this guest house is overpriced and overrated, with rats and poor birds in the dark cages. There are better options in the village like Souchitra, Saythong (very nice new room for 50 000) or other!

Wonderful owner”

1) owner and staff, 2) location and river view, 3) cost/ value for money

The owner is extremely kind, trustworthy, and helpful. Very chill environment, you can hang out on the shaded terrace all day. Seems to attract friendly, relaxed, mature (I'm 37) crowd. Rooms are basic but clean.I would definitely go back and rrecommend this guesthouse to others.

Not as good as its reputation”

The riverside terrace is the only good thing.

The service was slow, the menu not very edible and the room was cramped, stuffy and often with a poor water supply.

Cheerful guesthouse”

Food, view of Mekhong, ambience

Vongpaseud is a cheerful guesthouse, well run, with a dining deck that has superb views across the Mekhong to Don Daeng. food is good and solid. Air con rooms were basic but functioned well. Bike hire and trips possible. NB The new road is not necessarily used by transport when you come in from Pakse. You may find yourself dropped at the ferry and shuttled onto any passing skiff for the crossing as, despite the fact that the new road has a toll, the vehicular ferry seems to be no longer used. In fact we had to scramble across it with luggage in order to reach the skiff. Trip back to Pakse was via a 7 am songthaew on the new road - cheaper and there in about 35 minutes. Would be interesting to know if there is a Pakse-Champusak equivalent.

I can't recommend this plase to other travellers, because the rooms are really horrible (the worst I have seen in Asia so far). However, this place had a very nice river view.

Basic and cheap”

good restuarant, lovely views of Mekong, cheap

The guesthouse is very basic, with a very friendly owner. The rooms I booked were impossibly hot as the doublé fans didn´t work, and quite dirty, so I upgraded to aircon romos which were expensive, but cleaner and much better. Rented bikes for the day and visited Wat Poo, beautiful. good food too. There are cheaper and better hotels along the road.
